Kayaking in the Golfo Dulce with Tropical Sea Kayaking was an exceptional experience. The kayaking was peaceful, interesting, and carefully orchestrated by Vince and Mateis to enable us to manage the weather conditions. The food was delicious, healthful, and an experience! We were exposed to such a diversity of birds, creatures, flowers, plants and trees, and people who care for and respect their sacredness. Mucho Gracias to Mateis, Vince and their office-based team for making this trip a reality for me.

What an amazing experience! I have done a little kayaking in my life but was overjoyed by the trip to the San Blas Islands of Panama led by Vince of Tropical Sea Kayaking. His easy-going manner, knowledge and experience made the 8 days we spent together a real pleasure. Our group, consisting of 3 couples and me, camped on a number of deserted islands, snorkelled in prisitine, warm waters, ate sumptuous food and enjoyed some of the best of kayaking ever!
If kayaking in the tropics is something you have though about, choose Tropical Sea Kayaking, you won't be disappointed!
Thanks again Vince for a truly unforgettable experience.

I have recently returned from my SECOND 5 Star Tropical Sea Kayaking (TSK) Adventure in the Golfo Dulce with guide Matias Flores and paddlers from my paddling Ohana (Victoria, BC paddling family). Words cannot describe how incredible our trip was right from initial planning to end. Once again I am 100% satisfied with Eco-lodges, meals, wild, marine and bird life, mangroves, jungle hike, chocolate tour, snorkeling and paddling. TSK’s exceptional planning and organization makes the trip a truly effortless, stress free and safe experience. We all had an amazing, memorable, life changing adventure.
I highly recommend going on a TSK adventure! Definitely a bucket-list item!

Paddling - beautiful in the warm, flat waters mirroring the landscape.

Just returned from a fantastic 9-day kayaking adventure organized by Tropical Sea Kayaking. With very little kayaking experience, I enjoyed a safe and relaxing trip.

While paddling could be a bit intense occasionally, the pace of the entire journey was very well set via various activities such as rain forest hiking, chocolate farm visiting, and snorkeling etc.

Meals, which I no doubt had so much more experience than kayaking, were always made of fresh ingredients - simple, tasty, and nutritious.

Our guide, Matias, is a pro in sea kayaking as well as spotting wildlife. We saw all types of birds (including toucans), dolphins, turtles, monkeys, crocodiles, and so on during the trip.

I highly recommend Tropical Sea kayaking for your stay in Costa Rica.

Fantastic spot for kayaking mangroves and the Pacific Coast Area. Fabulous guides, unbelievably delicious and healthy local food (never tasted better fruit juices) and nice simple place to stay. It was a kayak adventure and it lived up to it 100%. Love them!

The trip to Panama and the San Blas Islands was a fascinating experience. We had a crew of five members from the Kuna nation plus our leader, Vince. The crew worked very hard to help in any way they could and the food was great - especially the Bonita toward the end of the trip.
The weather conditions were rougher than I expected although not insurmountable and we certainly got our exercise! Most of the places we stopped (islands) were beautiful with only a couple exceptions. The kayaks could have been in better condition, but with a little work were all sea-worthy. Vince was a great leader giving us a briefing before we set out each day on what we might encounter and if a change in plan was needed, described our different choices and let us decide.

Every one of the guests worked together to help each other when necessary and we had great fun with evening games. The Kuna children were very sweet and joined in. The sheer experience of getting out of your home routine and appreciating another culture's history, way of life and art was really worth it!

We just completed a wonderful 6 day trip with Vince in the Gulfo Dulce. The trip was well organized and equipped. Vince was an excellent resource and easy to get along with. We saw lots of wildlife (birds, monkeys, reptiles, insects, fish), including a long visit by the local bottle nosed dolphins. All the lodges provided comfortable beds and delicious food. With some insistence, we were able to do the trip utilizing the Lapamar lodge. Some of the newer itineraries are deleting this, but overall, we enjoyed the place and especially the gulf crossing the next day (something to consider depending on your group). We are experienced paddlers and appreciated the quality of the boats and paddles provided.

I have done paddling trips all over the world. Most have been great experiences, but only a few have exceeded my expectations. The 7-day sea kayak trip on Gulfo Dulce was one of those exceptional adventures. It’s easy to have a fun time in “green” and peaceful Costa Rica. It’s easy to catch glimpses of wildlife and to touch the rainforest and get a taste of local culture. On a Tropical Sea Kayaking trip you don’t glimpse, touch and taste; you are immersed in everything you might have expected the rainforest to be and more. For thirty minutes we watched two species of monkeys frolic in the mangroves above our kayaks, we paddled with dolphins, awoke to roaring Howler monkeys, snorkeled with three Moray eels, filled out bellies with nutritious locally grown jungle foods and hung out with indigenous people. Our guide kept us safe with a paddling skill set no other guide in Central America could best. Matias knows his stuff and shares it with impeccable English and sparkling wit. My trip on Gulfo Dulce with Tropical Sea Kayaking was the highlight of my six weeks in Central America. I recommend TSK without reservation.

My partner and I did the 6-day Full Experience trip in September, during the rainy season -- and it was amazing! We did the trip as the last leg of our honeymoon, and it did not disappoint. The trip was absolutely awesome, and because we were traveling during the low season, it was just us and our amazing guide Mathias. Mathias is everything you might want in a guide for this trip -- friendly, knowledgeable, flexible, patient, and helpful. We ended up losing a few pairs of sunglasses during the week, and Mathias happily lent us some extras and took us to the store to get more. :) Also, on the few afternoons when it was raining, Mathias had great ideas for fun alternative activities such as going on a tour of a local chocolate farm.

The best part is that the trip was adventure that we would not have been able to do had we been traveling through Costa Rica on our own -- the Golfo Dulce really is one of the few "off the beaten path" locations in Costa Rica. We saw so much wildlife on our trip -- jumping dolphins, mating sea turtles, monkeys, etc. We especially enjoyed the last leg of our trip at Saladero Eco Lodge -- one of the most amazing parts was kayaking through a huge mangrove forest at sunset and seeing amazing birds and wildlife alongside us. Oh, and the food was delicious, as well.

I highly recommmend TSK and Mathias -- worth every penny and an experience we will never forget!

My partner and I did a 6 day kayaking trip with Tropical Sea Kayaking in May, with our unbelievable guide Mathias. We knew that this was the start of rainy season but decided to take a chance, rather than miss out on this opportunity. Yes .. it did rain but not while we were kayaking and it did not affect our trip one bit. It rained mostly in the night and during the day it was clear and very hot.

Mathias was the ultimate host, tour guide and gentleman. I could not say enough good things about him - he was just amazing in every way. He did his best to ensure we had the best time ever and he succeeded. He helped us carry the kayaks and gear & did more than his fair share of the lifting. Being in our 60's, we could not do as much as we did even 10 years ago and Mathias just stepped in, unobtrusively whenever a kayak needed carrying.

The water was the calmest that we have ever kayaked on but some of the paddling days were quite long. But we made it to our lodge and enjoyed the rest of the morning/afternoon. The scenery was beautiful and we saw beautiful birds, turtles and monkeys. What a great way to spend the day - delicious breakfast, challenging, beautiful kayak, well-deserved shower, lunch, relax, relax, relax, wine & dinner. Not a thing to worry about.

The eco lodges that we stayed at were lovely but what made them special was the families that owned and ran them. They were warm & friendly and the food was so delicious. What was so amazing is that they always remembered our dietary issues and none of them was a problem. The accommodation was very clean and comfortable.

We would highly recommend a trip with Tropical Sea Kayaking. You won't be disappointed.

I recently returned from an 8-day trip guided by Vince on Gulfo Dulce and it was all around a fantastic trip. Vince was very helpful making all itinerary and logistical arrangements around my arrival and departure from San Jose and for transport to and from the Gulf and he is a wonderful guide, very friendly and very knowledgeable about the wildlife, the region and country in general. The itinerary for each day had a great balance of activity without being overwhelming and Vince was very helpful and accommodating with providing options for activities, either individually or for the group, depending on everyone's interests and energy levels. The accommodations during the trip - the ecolodges on the Gulf and the hotel near the San Jose airport - were very comfortable and the lodge hosts were all very friendly and accommodating as well. Overall a fantastic and very enjoyable trip, I certainly recommend Tropical Sea Kayaking to anyone looking for an active vacation in Costa Rica. I'm also very excited for the possibility of joining one of their trips in Panama next year.

8 Day Golfo Dulce Trip. 10 of us banded together to make this trip. The trip began and ended at La Rosa de America Hotel in San Jose. Very nice, clean, relaxing place to stay. The remaining days were spent at ecolodges in the rain forest. Yes, it is warm, humid and buggy but that is the rain forest. The accommodations were comfortable and the food was delicious and super healthy as much of it is local grown. Our guides were wonderful and knowledgeable which made this trip interesting and fun. The jungle critters were fun to watch (birds or iguanas) or hear (howler monkeys).

I was most delighted with the fresh fruit which seems to grow wild. Papaya, bananas, pineapple, coconut. Mangoes falling off the tree. Best fruit a person will ever taste.

Kayaking in a variety of environments. Open gulf salt water. Islands. Rivers and mangroves. Shoreline paddling along the jungle. Swimming and snorkeling in bath warm water. These are the adventures we wanted and were not disappointed. My favorite paddling is in the rivers. Up close and personal.

Lots of very interesting discussions with guides and ecolodge owners on nature, ecology, environment, and Costa Rica. Very educational.

From beginning to end there was never any doubt at where to go or how to make connections. Everything was well planned. I hope to make a few more trips with these folks.

Imagine gliding in your kayak through the center of a dense red mangrove forest, under a lush green canopy, the calls of toucans, parrots and other tropical birds above you and howler monkeys in the distance. It was completely amazing!

Our adventure with Tropical Sea Kayaking, exploring the north end of the Golfo Dulce, was the highlight of our trip to Costa Rica. Vince was an awesome guide; thoroughly organized but relaxed, highly knowledgeable, friendly, and super competent.

We stayed at the remote Saladero Ecolodge, on the boundary of the Piedras Blancas National Park – a beautiful location. Harvey and Susan were wonderful hosts.

Vince’s kayaks were great, with high quality comfortable seats providing good back support - much appreciated for our crossing to Rincon de Osa on our last day!

We enthusiastically recommend this trip!!

Just returned from kayaking in the beautiful Golfo Dulce in Costa Rica with 5 friends. This was our second trip with Vince as our guide, the first one 2 years ago in San Blas Islands, Panama. Vince's easy going nature, sense of humor and attention to detail made for another great experience. We never felt rushed and yet covered a great deal of territory. The colors and aromas of the sea, mangrove forests, and river estuaries are extremely vibrant. It is clear that TSK has a great relationship with the local people and everyone worked together to give us the best experience possible at El Chontal, Llapamar, and Saladero Eco-lodges.
I enjoyed kayaking while watching rays and turtles swim past the boat and even spotted the very rarely sighted yellow bellied sea snake! The variety of birds seen throughout this unique and isolated gulf was incredible, including more macaws than I thought possible, toucans, herons, falcons, and egrets. Vince was always keen to share his knowledge of these amazing birds. I managed to see all 4 types of moray eels, a huge school of jack fish, eagle rays and spotted rays while snorkeling.
The food was amazing, especially the fresh seafood and fruit. Every sunset, moonset and sunrise was unique and photo worthy. It was hard to go to bed with so many stars to gaze at. All things considered, I strongly recommend the Golfo Dulce and TSK in particular. I can't wait to go back.

My wife and our two sons (26yrs and 22yrs old) just returned home from a sixteen day trip to Costa Rica. A first tropical experience for all of us. Tropical Sea Kayaking organized the entire trip for us that included 5 days of sea kayaking in the beautiful Gulfo Dulce, white water rafting in the Naranjo and Pacuare Rivers, waterfall repelling in Lost Canyon, zip lining over the rain forests at the base of Arenal Volcano as well as ample time in Manuel Antonio and La Fortuna enjoying the views and relaxing on beaches and in hot springs. Wow!!

The trip was amazing! Costa Rica is a truly beautiful place with great people and culture. TSK did a great job organizing our entire trip that went off without a hitch. Our guides, Matias and Vince were outstanding. Professionalism, skill, passion, knowledge, sense of place - I can not say enough about these guys and all the wonderful folks they involved in our trip. It was an absolute pleasure spending time with such quality people. Muchas gracias amigos!!

A couple of thoughts of Tropical Sea Kayaking and Costa Rica:
Culture:
I liked the wonderful people of Costa Rica. The children were all joyful and seemed to be well cared for. You never heard a baby cry in frustration. The elders enjoyed respect. The young ones approached you with a positive and polite attitude. All hallmarks of a culture with good non-material values.
The sense of humor of our Canadian and Californian companions was most compatible with the Northern Norwegian. There was loud foreign laughter echoing across the fjord and deep in the jungle.
Kayaking:
Interesting mangrove and rivers.
For the long crossing of Golfo Dulce, my tactical advice to young Marie was to plant her kayak’s bow firmly onto the rudder of the double kayak. It worked great. At any indication of fatigue, she would speed into the wake of the big boat and let its paddlers, Matias and Janet dig a hole in the fjord for her to surf.
Jungle:
The jungle was, to my surprise, a most comfortable place. Cool, quiet and full of mysteries. Always fascinating to visit a wilderness where wildlife has not been hunted too hard. With senses sharpened and the help of a local expert we got in touch with animals like nowhere else.
Guides:
Our hosts, Matias, Vince and Janet, had a way of making each one of us feel well. Security without anxiousness. Authority without orders. Program without stress. Lots of individual room for play and exploration. Costa Rican hospitality. Seemed to enjoy the trip as much as we did.

I had such a great trip with these guys. Very knowledgable about all aspects of the trip. Matias has a lot of great stories and a genuine interest in just about all conversations that come up. Vince tells a great joke and don't let him tell you otherwise. Such an amazing trip. It would be great to get back out on the water with this crew someday. If not I'm fine with the opportunity I had for a trip of a lifetime!
