I couldn’t have been happier with my time spent at Tico Lingo. Learned a lot, made a ton of friends, and even got laid! 😝 jk. But seriously, this is a great school for learning Spanish in an open, immersive environment that is safe and welcoming. If you’re looking for a solid place to study Spanish in Costa Rica this is it.

I was very impressed by TiCo Lingo! The environment is very comfortable and welcoming. The school has a nice laid back family feel, but still proves to be an intensive language learning place that facilitates a good amount of challenge to students. It is a very endearing place that is far from a stuffy academic setting. It feels like a friend’s house. The people at tico lingo nurture you while you’re there. They give you advice about travel plans and take you out for food or drinks in the neighborhood to ensure that you have a positive experience. I’m certain that anyone looking to learn Spanish in a fun way would be happy here. You can work as hard and often as you’d like. The experience will be what you make of it but tico lingo definitely strives to make you happy and supports your growth linguistically!

Tico Lingo is fabulous! Chris and the entire staff have created such a welcoming and inclusive environment. It felt like hanging out with friends when we first met. We sent our triplet teenagers to Tico Lingo this summer for 3 weeks and our kids loved every minute! Chris and his staff were wonderful with setting up their homestays and answering all of my questions. Our kids had never traveled outside the US before and had never been away from home for that long, so it was a new experience for all of us. Chris found 3 wonderful families who treated our kids like their own. All of the families lived on the same street, so our children were still close to each other, yet were able to each have an independent & full homestay experience. They all loved their families & didn't want to leave!

Our children had 3 years of Spanish before coming to Tico Lingo. They had book knowledge but were ready to put it to use in conversation. Their Tico Lingo teacher Yobeth was wonderful and helped get them become comfortable & confident speakers. She had her work cut out for her since they were in class together. They came out of their experience basically fluent. They gained confidence and courage to talk to anyone in Spanish and can understand pretty much everything. We spent a week as a family in Costa Rica after their time at Tico Lingo & they acted as our interpreters for the rest of the trip. It was wonderful to see them in action!

The weekend excursions and after school activities were a great bonus too. They went white water rafting and to the beach. They also traveled with their host families to the mountains. They participated in the weekly gathering of locals to learn English and practice their Spanish. The boys participated in the tico soccer games and loved it. They shopped at the local markets and cooked lunch in the kitchen at school and they learned to make coffee in a chorreador. One of our sons brought one home and makes his coffee in it daily.

I am so grateful to Chris and all of the staff at Tico Lingo for taking such great care of our kids during their stay & for encouraging the love of language. They are all continuing Spanish classes in high school and they hope to travel next summer to another Spanish speaking country.

    We highly recommend Tico Lingo!!!

    Muchas Gracias! Pura Vida!

To anyone who is trying to bilingual or enhance you Spanish speaking ability I would highly recommend this school! I felt that the staff here really go above and beyond to help you feel welcome, comfortable and keep you as busy as you want to be. They do an awesome job of balancing learning a lot in the class room while offering tons of stuff to do during the week and weekends to help you be immersed but also have lots of fun while doing it!

My teacher Lucia was amazing! She was so fun and encouraging and was very good at knowing exactly how to help me exactly at my level. She came up with lots of fun ways of learning but also buckled down and stressed things that she found were very important for us!

Outside of the classroom the staff invited us to soccer with locals, we made beer together, got drinks together at a bar a few blocks from the school during Costa Rican soccer games (soccer games are a big thing in CR), they held conversation hours with locals for us to practice Spanish, they showed us around town and showed us many of their favorite places! Plus they did so much more that I'm sure frankly I forgot about!

The housing arrangements for me were SOLID! I didn't hear one negative thing about any students regarding housing and host families. I often heard of how cool, friendly and welcoming the host families were. My one friend got invited to his Tica sister's Quinceanera. Another friend got invited to the families cottage for the weekend and supposedly it was really really nice! I was even invited to someones Father's day plans they basically dragged me along b/c i didn't want to go b/c i felt like it was intruding on them. Costa Ricans are generally very nice and way more welcoming the any where in America or Europe!

Oh and they offered weekend trips for $100 bucks every weekend which included 2 meals, transportation and the cost of the main event (white water rafting, Manuel Antonio Tours, Volcano Tours, zip linning, etc). They also offered yoga, cooking and salsa lessons during the week!

    Overall pretty good stuff!

I would also recommend getting a rental car in advance (make sure it is an automatic) and visiting things on the weekends or after your time there! There are also tons of local events and the capital of CR just 30 mins away (less than 10 bucks in an uber).

So far Tico Lingo is pretty great. I have only been in class for three days, but have learned a lot more than I thought I would, and almost all of it is actual practical stuff. I was hesitant to sign up for a spanish program like this at first, but Tico Lingo seems to know how to do it right.

It is really immersive here, and there is really no better way to learn. Definitely would recommend this to anyone wanting to learn spanish. PLUS, Costa Rica is beautiful!

I took a few private lessons with Tico Lingo and absolutely loved the chill vibe of the school. My classes were very intense and they brought me to the conversational level that I needed within a week. After about 10 hours of class, I felt that my confidence to converse in spanish dramatically increased. I also loved the free coffee at the school everyday before class! The program director is welcoming and easy to talk to. They had great resources like maps and books and just basic knowledge about where to go and what to do in Costa Rica. I would defiantly recommend this school if you want a unique and personal school experience! The small class sizes are priceless and I learned a ton. It was a wonderful experience meeting some of the fun characters at Tico Lingo! Gracias!

Tico Lingo is honestly by far the best language school I have experienced. Relaxed atmosphere, fantastic teachers who really go out of their way to help. I loved the program with Yoga, Dancing and Cooking classes and my host family was so warm and welcoming and really made my stay and the food was delicious. Thanks so much Tico Lingo. I'll be back!!

I did a three week program last February and had an incredible time speaking with locals, playing soccer, and adventuring around the country. My teacher was incredibly patient and created a custom program specific to my level. I would defintely recommend the school to anyone trying to learn Spanish quickly and proficiently as well as to someone just looking to have more of an interesting, rewarding experience in Costa Rica.
