  I was pleasantly surprised by all of the lovely upgrades and renovations made with the new management!!
  I stayed two years ago and loved the experience although I noticed somethings and staff needed improvement. Since then, I would read the reviews and dream about going back. Then when I read the owner's caring reply to a reviewer who complained, saying that the resort has had an overhaul since there is new management..I quickly booked a 7 day solo stay!
  Soooo nice to go back! The scenery, the rainforest, the yoga, the massages and the hikes were all so wonderful like I remembered them but now there was an amazing vibe and also the staff seemed extra friendly and helpful. The food was good before but now it was amazing with such a fresh selection of fruits and vegetables and flavors.
  When I sat in that jacuzzi overlooking the water, I felt at peace and I was able to clear my mind. My bungalow felt like a treehouse as I would listen to the leaves rustle in the wind and hear the animals in the midst of this amazing rainforest.
  There is something truly magical about this resort.

  I came to Costa Rica to experience the nature and have a relaxed vacation.
  At Samasati the staff was super helpful, friendly, and welcoming (mainly Stephanie, Hanna, David, Venessa and Max) They even packed food for me if I went out of town and didn't make in back to Samasati in time for Lunch/Dinner. David took me on hikes and showed me cool spots in the jungle that was breathtakingly beautiful.
  
  I feel the residence where I stayed itself (cottages and bungalows) could have been maintained better. Im a huge outdoorsy person and I have roughed it out many times in the wild, but but for the price paid I'd like a cleaner shelter to stay in. Every night I had multiple huge bugs in my room and/or bed (ants on my bed every night). David was kind enough to get the giant ones out of my bungalow whenever I requested his help.
  I didn't get fresh towels every day and my room wasn't cleaned everyday by the cleaner as well.
  
  The food isn't bad, but wasn't great.
  
  To sum up I had a wonderful travel in Costa Rica and I couldn't have stayed in a place more closer to the wild like I wanted.

  My ratings would be much higher if: 1) I was not bitten by several sand flies in my bed while sleeping AND did not develop cutaneous leishmaniasis, tropical infectious disease, from those bites; 2) if property showed any desire to work on prevention and improve when I contacted them. So, I came back from Samasati with this disease that manifested in 8 non-healing ulcers on my body that require lots of medical attention. Since I came back from Costa Rica to US it took me 2 months of going from one doctor to the next to get diagnosed. I have been on 5 different antibiotics with no improvement. Currently, I am in treatment with infectious disease doctor undergoing course of chemotherapy for 4 weeks, which is a standard treatment for this disease. Below is the picture of one of the ulcers.
  I think Samasati is a great place for a very savvy traveler well-familiar with the jungle and risks involved, who knows how to protect themselves from those invisible and visible things in the jungle. For the less savvy travelers or those who have never stayed in the jungle before, it is NOT a good or safe place.
  On a positive side, views are amazing, food is great, wild life opportunities are abundant. They have beautiful spaces for yoga and meditation.

  Great view, relaxing, friendly staff. Dinner costs extra. I was not aware of it till a few days after I checked in. You will need a taxi to and from the retreat unless you leave at 10am and return at 3pm which is when they offer the free shuttle. Taxi drivers do not drive up the hill. You must either call or use the radio at the bottom to call and have one of their drivers come down and get you. Great nature, wildlife, yoga classes, and trails for hiking.

  Beautiful scenery, friendly and helpful staff. Dinner costs an extra $10-20 depending on if you eat meat. Overall wonderful and relaxing.

  HUGE disparity between their website and reality. We booked a private room and bath, but got the run-down Dragon House which we had to share with strangers. Food was generally OK, but often brown and mushy. Not a single comfortable place to sit or sleep. Be aware that wine and beer cost 7-10 $US - nowhere and by no one will you be told this until you have to settle up!
  
  Nice local staff; unresponsive, surly manager. Most of the light bulbs in our casita didn't work. When we asked for an extra lamp, we were refused by this manager. "If I give you a lamp, I'll have to take it from someone else." How about from your palatial residence!? Big WTH moment, among the many.

  Beyond amazing. If you are looking to travel to paradise, relax and reconnect in a natural haven, Samasati is the place for you. Beautifully run, delicious food, and friendly staff. I came for a solo traveler retreat and had a tremendous experience. Stephanie is a world class yoga teacher, the excursions were fun and I met new like-minded people. Life is short. Don't hesitate -if you are wondering whether to come - the answer is YES!

  I just attended a BEAUTIFUL wedding at Samasati, and I can't stop feeling the amazing energy from being at this lovely sanctuary in the jungle.
  It's really unlike any hotel I've ever been to.
  The grounds are built right into nature. You live seamlessly with the jungle - but in private bungalows with screens and a lovely porch with a hammock, that let's you watch wildlife in it's element, while having comfort and privacy. The view is amazing, since Samasati is built on a mountain overlooking the the valley below that leads to the ocean. Hiking in the jungle is also a crazy experience, with so many animals and ancient trees, and a waterfall for a lovely dip.
  As a vegetarian, the food was so delicious and creative and filling. I loved the fresh coconuts and all the fruit. It's probably because the kitchen staff is so upbeat with good energy, listening to great music and joking around while they make the food with love.
  Things are just different here, time is different. I thought to myself "I'll never do yoga at 6:30am, are they crazy?" But really, you start to live in the rhythm of the jungle and getting up with the sunrise is so beautiful, that I didn't mind at all to have an incredible and invigorating yoga class before breakfast to start my day off right.
  I love this place. I love the people that come to stay here and are drawn to it. I love the jungle vibe, and the peace and quiet, but also the easy access to the beach and the cute town nearby.
  Definitely visit! I'll be back.
