We ate breakfast here twice during our stay in la Fortuna. The food was decent and seemed reasonable value for money given the location. The staff were very friendly and welcoming. They also had cakes for sale that unfortunately we didn't try as we were too full up from breakfast but they looked delicious.
We had empanadas for lunch, we tried both the beef and chicken. They are delicious, and quite large! Not too big that we didn't want dessert though, thank goodness because that passion fruit cheesecake was life changing! I have never tasted cheesecake more delicious.
This was my affordable go-to for yummy authentic local food. Portions are small / healthy in size. I would often come here to people watch, read my Lonely Planet and use some wifi. Not a fancy place by any means - just a handy spot for good grub.
What a thrill! Just a half block from the Central Park and church, this is a gem. Seats about fifty people, the food is outstanding and reasonable, the staff friendly, the beef great.
Living in Miami, I am used to fried bananas and yucca; the quality is high here.
For a special thrill, try the coconut flan - enjoy.
We ate here once and the food was good, but prices we a bit above average. The coffee is the center point though, they pour it at the table for you. Personally I had a latte and enjoyed it.
The service was outstanding. I am vegetarian and there are very limited options here for that, they came up with a vegetarian burrito for me that was tasty. I had the Mono Loco as my drink and it was phenomenal especially on a hot day. We also ordered chocolate cake with caramel drizzle that was good. I would bypass the meal for coffee and dessert next time
Excellent!!! Wife and I had Mochas, the food was great quality at a good price. It's location is exciting, you are surrounded by wonderful locals that are all very family oriented. Don't let it's location turn you away, you'll be surrounded by tourists as well if you are that fearful.
Very good food. We were recommended the special and it was delicious. We also got the typical coffee that is poured through a filter at your table. Strong coffee but very good.
Good food. Was a little warm in the restaurant, could have used a few more open windows. Salad with yogurt dressing was a little over dressed but the sopa azteca and casado was excellent!
It is a beautiful small place and the food is delicious as well as the coffee they serve.
We went for dinner and had the "casado" (special of the day for 3,500 colones) with steak. The food was good, the steak was tender and the service was great. Went back again two days after to find a pushy (for pricier meals on the menu) waiter who told us they did not have "casado" anymore because of the time of day. When we told him we had been there at a later time of day two days before, he became arrogant, but did serve us the "casado". This second visit service was not good, and the steak was not tender at all. Coffee was very good.
Massively overhyped. The food, for what you get, is really expensive and decent at best for Costa Rican standards. I guess you would call this a tourist trap. The desserts are pretty great however, easily the best I had in Costa Rica. Even though La Fortuna isn't a restaurant hub there is better and cheaper food found elsewhere.
The best coffee in La Fortuna! They make it a ritual here by presenting you with this strange apparatus and brewing the coffee right in front of you. It comes out delicious and you get a little mini cup extra along with your main cup. A fun experience in not to be missed by coffee lovers!
Food was delicious. Coffee was fantastic. Service was friendly, attentive, and helpful. Great for breakfast, lunch, or just coffee. Not sure about the dinner situation, but I'd imagine it's excellent as well. They also have free WiFi for their customers.
Great place with nice local food and deserts. Not to forget the best coffee in town and good service. The chocolate cake flan and tres leche are to die for.
We ate here and enjoyed the fish casado with rice and beans, a salad, plantains, and a natural fresco. It was delicious! The customer service was unbelievable -- some of the best I've experienced in Costa Rica.
Wait staff tried to rip us off. First off, she offered us the specials on the board and when we asked to substitute chicken for beef, she neglected to mention that there would be an extra charge. We ended up with a completely different meal and an extra charge nearly twice the price of the original meal - $24USD (12,000 colones) per dish!!! Absolutely absurd price for a mediocre meal.
Do not go here if you are a foreigner. We were taken advantage of by a bait and switch. Apparently there were two types of fajita on the specials board. One that is written and called "fajita carne" for $12 and another (not shown anywhere) called the "mixed fajita" which they wanted to charge us $24 for.
This brought the meal total for 5 people to well over $100 which is absurd when the restaurant right next door with better quality food cost us $45 total. When we confronted our waitress about this discrepancy she offered a "discount" which still left out meal at $90. I would highly recommend the next door restaurant called soda viquez - great food and a super friendly owner.
