  I called around to several of the top rated places and stumbled upon Mauricio’s number. Out of all the places I called l, he was by far the nicest and most flexible. We had 3 couples in our 30s ranging in experience from none to decent surfers. I called the day before and Mauricio found 2 others to help out so we’d have multiple instructors for the group. Really laid back and perfect for what we were looking for. Heading back to day to rent boards from him again bc his generosity was incredible. We could be renting next to our condo but I’d rather walk the mile to his shop. Not to mention, his wife has a boutique at the shop that the women loved. And she was incredibly kind as well. I’d recommend Mauricio’s surf lessons to anyone.

  Mauricios Surf Lessons is where it's at in Jaco. I had never surfed before and always wanted to try. I've longboard and snowboarded and assumed that I'd be decent skill wise but surfing was another animal. Anthony was an awesome instructor who took the time to go over everything with me and after a few hours I was getting up on the board and managing the techniques he taught. Mauricio was able to video tape our lessons too for memories. Great experience and a great staff I'd highly recommend to anyone visiting Jaco who are either learning for the first time or looking to hone their skills cuz these guys are experts. Pura Vida!

  My wife and I just came back from Costa Rica for our honeymoon and I must say, I was blown away by Mauricio's hospitality and willingness to help us out. I surf but my wife does not she wanted to take lessons from a pro and I wanted a place to rent a board for a couple hours. Being that our honeymoon wasn't exactly a surf trip, I didn't want to lug around my board to Arenal then back to the beach where we were staying 2nd.
  
  Mauricio gave my wife the confidence she needed to get out there past the breakers and ride her first real wave all the way to shore. This was a day where it was 3-4 ft. While I think I’m comfortable enough to give my wife lessons myself, there's just something about having someone as skilled as Mauricio instruct a new surfer that gave her the full confidence/instruction she needed. Now for myself, Mauricio had plenty of boards to pick from, and even offered me to surf his own Sharp Eye (which looked brand new).
  
  Surfing aside, Mauricio even had a friend pick us up from our hotel for a small fee - cheaper than a local taxi. This hotel was about 15 minutes away too Mauricio also knew I was a little low on cash and took me to an ATM afterwards, even better he knew one that could give me US dollars. Then, he knew we were hungry so what did he do, take us to a local spot for a great bite to eat. I could probably have written a much longer review but just know that if you call up Mauricio you can't go wrong whether you're brand new to surfing or intermediate + and just don't feel like lugging your board around on flights.

  A must do when in Jaco! If you've never surfed before or are looking to improve your skills, Mauricio is the best instructor you could have! This was truly such a wonderful experience and I'm now totally hooked thanks to his instruction and for instilling confidence! Thank you!

  Mauricio is an excellent instructor. My 14-year-old daughter had her first ever surf lesson with him, and she loved it! Mauricio is a very skilled instructor and is positive and encouraging.
