This is a charming place to visit. It was built by Franz Ulrich and his wife in the image of a Swiss farm and hotel complex. Of special interest is the little extra narrow gauge railroad Franz built that goes from the hotel to the highest point on the property. This is a distance of about 3 miles. At the top there is a revolving restaurant with a great view of lake Arenal and even the Arenal volcano, in clear weather of course. The food is good. So a stay of a day or two can be very pleasant. There is even access to the lake for boating activities.

The food was good, and service was decent, however, the prices are a tourist trap and tax you heavily for convenience even though lots of other good options are a few kilometers away.

We saw this cute, kitschy little "German" place on the hill, and decided to stop for a quick pastry and a cup of coffee en route from La Fortuna to the western coast. I wish I could give a separate score for the appearance and for the quality here because this place is absolutely adorable. After looking at the confused and disjointed menu (Costa Rican-German fusion?), we ended up just getting a couple of coffees (especially since the waitress never came back to ask if we wanted food). The coffees tasted like they were from yesterday's brew and were cold. We asked the waitress for a fresh cup; she microwaved them and returned the same old coffee, now just in scalding mugs. Again, very charming place with a great view and a pleasant staff, and the food might have been good, our experience just turned me off to it. Worth the stop for the view though!

Hotel los Heroes, its also known as "Mi pequeña Helvecia" its a little Swiss town here in Costa Rica, everything is theme Swiss. It has nice view to Arenal Lake.
