La Ruka is a paradise within a paradise. I am so grateful I chose this hostel. Suck good vibes here!! The owners are incredibly friendly and welcoming. The guests this places attracts are super chilled and laidback too. The environment is perfect—mellow, beautiful, homey—they truly do live up to their motto “home away from home”.

I loved the hostel with the friendly staff and administration. Lots of amenities offered, like cheap bike rental, good WiFi, pool table, laundry, etc Very healthy and organic vibe, but guests can still feel free to enjoy a smoke or drink without judgement, but more likely some company!

Best hostel in the Puerto Viejo area, and my favorite hostel in Costa Rica so far. The owners are lovely, they even put on a fire show and invited us to participate in a cacao ceremony. La Ruka felt like home. Love you Dannie & Dave 😍

I really enjoyed my stay at La Ruka. The bed was incredibly comfortable and the rooms were clean. The people that work there are also amazing. I had a wonderful first evening there hanging out downstairs and talking to them all about a variety of different things, getting new perspectives, and having some great laughs, all while sharing a bag of peanuts ☺️

Absolutely plan to stay here again next time I'm in the area. Really great place to go if you're looking for comfort, cleanliness, cool vibes, and awesome down to earth community.

Absolutely amazing place! If you are looking for a place with good vibes, good people and close to both the beach and the town, this place is perfect. Stayed here for all 3 of my trips to Puerto Viejo.

I wanted to like this place because of the reviews on Google and other websites but I didn't have a pleasant stay. The staff were great but the toilets (especially in my dorm room) had problems flushing down. I had to use the plunger in order for it to workthere was no warm water for showering as advertised. Also, I love dogs but there was dog poop all over the grounds and it reeked of it. Because of these reasons, I felt unclean and left the next day.

Probably the best hostel in Costa Rica! People come to stay for a few days, but end up leaving weeks later! This is a great place to make friends or just relax. Ended up staying for months!

I love this place! Only been here a couple nights but it feels so much like home. The staff is incredible - so friendly and caring going out of their way to help us! Great rates at $10 a bunk. The kitchen is seriously amazing! Best hostel kitchen I've seen so far and it got very thoroughly cleaned every day we stayed, complete with new wash rags and kitchen towels. I was really impressed! It's very organized in terms of food storage, waste disposal, and kitchen items. We've had a very comfortable stay and really love the vibe and setting. Quiet, lush jungle setting, it's absolutely gorgeous. Although people here love to kick back and hang out, it is definitely not a party hostel and I appreciated the chill relaxed vibe without any crazy excessive or loud partying. Everyone was very respectful:) Free pool table use as well as games, hula hoops, and books. They also rent surf boards, bikes, and snorkel gear. Location was perfect in my mind, just outside of central PV and right in between PV and Cocles. I literally have no complaints about this place, and would absolutely recommend it 100%! Thank you Dave & Dannie!!

This place rocked. They had reasonable posted prices (~10 for private pp), no need to haggle. Workers were super helpful. They have nice rooms, wifi, shower. Etc. Kitchen was spacious, had a pool table, bikes to rent, games. Located so close to awesome beaches. Would recommend renting bikes, u can go all over town and to any beach. Also, check out tasty waves bar nearby. Fav bar. Dollar shots and great drink daily deals.

This is a really great hostel. It attracts good people and the hosts are very friendly, helpful and passionate. Stayed in a double private/shared bathroom, only shared our bathroom with another double, which was great. Very clean, kitchen is big, lots of dry storage, fridge is a bit small when some people put all of their belongings into it (seemed that way some days), otherwise lots of room. Great location, quiet and friendly. Thanks a bunch Dani and Dave!
