35 degrees C and no air conditioning. We left to find a place with air. Meal prices are high compared to other places and it is far from any other restaurants or sodas. It looked like a nice place and probably would have been a 3 or 4 if it had air.

Be prepared! This place is in the middle of nowhere, The lodges and food are basic, no TV no AC. You can only pay cash pref in dollars. You will get hot water when it likes, dinner is served at 7 and you are summoned by the gong and no choice of food. Take it or leave it! The staff were quietly friendly. We too took 2 small outings, one across the bay and along the river, great for twitchers, the other around the Finca on a big buggy towed by a tractor, this time crocs and monkeys. Brilliant. Just the two of us on both trips. The views are to die for, sunsets so golden red its almost ethereal, the skies are clear and stars brighter than I have experienced. The place has its faults but only when compared with your traditional hotels, my recommendation would be to experience this place and with the right attitude you will have memories to treasure.

Beautiful location on the bay and the firefly show at dusk is astonishing (almost mind tripping). Hikes on the Rancho are pretty, although not well maintained, and you'll be able to see pelicans, frigatebirds, manta rays jumping above the waves and crocs.
However, this site (under new leadership?) misses on some key performance indicators. Most notably is lack of cleanliness. Cabins are dirty (like: bathroom knobs, light switches and surfaces), jays are allowed to scavenge breakfast. Staff appears switched off. And is that really the site manager/owner who's watching TV all day without interacting with guests?
Lastly: it's remote so you're suggested to eat (ration portioned) meals on site, which are not great value for money, but the biggest downer is being forced to pay it all in cash. In the end you'll end up driving anyway to civilisation and an ATM in Colorado (10 miles/16k)

This is a unique spot. The family is running a ranch while protecting habitat and providing a nice ecolodge. The staff are wonderful. I will return.

Terrible terrible terrible! If you plan to come to this place to ride horses STOP! DO NOT COME HERE! I've been a horseman my entire life. I ensure you my opinion is valid. I traveled here as part of a group of experienced horse people as part of a 10 day riding excursion in different parts of Costa Rica. After arriving here we as a group noticed the quality of the tack was poor. After our first day of riding we noticed the horses were not being cared for properly (they were not washed after being ridden in the heat, the bridals caused sores on the nose and chin.) As a group we could tell something was wrong and were not at all comfortable with the treatment of the animals. Most had skin problems and some clearly had ear mites. On the second day of riding we decided to remove the saddles ourselves because the caretakers would not remove the tack in front of us. We found saddle sores on the backs of the horses and immediately put a stop to our trip. The conditioning of these poor animals is terrible. A couple of them should be retired due to age and physical condition. It is Absolutely unacceptable for this place to advertise as an establishment to come and enjoy this beautiful country on their mistreated horses. Do not come here! Do not patronize this place where horses are not cared for and given even a small amount of general veterinary care!
