The craft beers, nachos and chicken wings were delicious! Our zip lining guides recommended it and we thoroughly enjoyed our evening. Very gracious service and reasonable prices! ¡Pura Vida!
Nice spot & location but I definitely caught lice from the bed I was staying in. Had to go to the clinic nearby with the help of friends. Just please be careful please was not the best experience with this happening the day I was leaving Puerto Viejo to travel back to San Jose. My skin was on fire and I felt so repulsive with my hair and body. The lice left after about 2-3 weeks but, it definitely a pain to go back home with this issue and possibly spreading it to my own home. I’m better now but this made my experience leaving Costa Rica unpleasant.
Excellent chicken wings, I had them several times on vacation here. The Ginger Beer is the best I have ever had. Great service, great food and great staff.
Asta Luego !!
Would not come here again. We didn't stay at the hotel just ate at the restaurant. The server told one person in my party that the fish was pan cookedit was fried. Brought everyone's food out 25 minutes after we ordered (which is normal) but took an EXTRA 23 minutes with my order, which was just a grilled chicken sandwich and they didn't even include the whole order. The server spoke English so I know there was no confusion. She never came back to check on us either. Food was awful. The only way I'd come back is because of the music. The only good thing about this place. Completely disappointed.
Good service and easily the best beer in Puerto Viejo. They make some of their own and also have a good selection from across Costa Rica. Plus it's beach front and a great place to chill. Highly recommend.
Visited pre-brewery. Great location, slightly above the fray. Easy beach access. Maybe a little rowdy for the younguns.
Optimal spot right across the Playa Negra beach! Very casual and nice to place to have a brew. The flight of core beers are really cool and I would stick with that. Our server was friendly and her dog was even cuter! Nice place to relax! The only reason I give it a 3.5/4 stars is that the reserve craft beers are not that great but core 4 beers are!
We just had some beer here.
They we're out of the gluten free beer and some of the beer on tap we wanted. What we had was just okay, and one beer was to terrible to finish. Beer was generally under carbonated.
This place was also very hot, as it did not have any fans.
Awful. Was taken here for food, super expensive, bad service, rude staff. 27 dollars for a pizza and a mojito
You'll Regret not staying here- I was blessed enough to have visited Puerto Viejo for two nights and chose Kaya's as my place for lodging. I made the perfect choice, especially as a solo traveller!! Everyone here are genuinely lovely, authentic, and welcoming. JT the owner and brewer has a micro-brewery that I had the pleasure of being invited to visit where he personally shared some of his intelligence on how beer brewing works (an invaluable experience). The rooms are comfortable accommodations with eclectic/rustic style. Beds are firm (you can decide if that what you like or not). Bathrooms are clean and functional. The restaurant is top notch in taste, variety of dishes and quality. Luis the bartender is an amazingly funny, and well-rounded individual who acts as a concierge voluntarily to ensure your stay is comfortable. Crystal is the coolest chick around, very laid back and always looking out for your benefit. The location is literally across a small road to the beach, you fall asleep to the waves laying in one of the many hammocks on the second floor. You are a short walk to the center of town and official Mepe bus stop, but when arriving the drivers know Kaya's by name and will drop you right in front oh the place on the way into town. All in all in a matter of minutes arriving here, I felt like family. My experience here is not one I will soon forget, the warmth shown to me from the staff will be carried forever. I plan to return soon.
Maybe I was homesick but I loved tasting some craft beer down on the beach. We stayed in one of the rooms that had a private bathroom. The A/C made this room a perfect place to relax between activities.
The microbrew selection was nice, the pizza was decent. Did not stay at the hotel but talked to a couple that stayed one night and they said it was OK, a little noisy.
I only ate there on a stop over. The food was alright. The natural juice was watered down, with out sugar and it was warm. The service was weak.
The location of the place is really nice due to the sound of the ocean that's right in front of it. The prices are rather on the upper end.
Summing up, location and infrastructure great, food and service rather low.
Decent place to stay but don't expect too much. The restaurant service could improve by having a few more hands helping out in the kitchen. Food was ok.
I dropped in one afternoon for a tour of the brewery and had a great time. The tour includes 5 generously sized samples, a glass, and walkthrough of their brewery. The owner (TJ?) is a mad beer scientist; the beer is excellent. There were a couple oddball brews like nothing I've had before and they were all good. I needed some food after all the beer so I ordered the Caribbean chicken and was pleasantly surprised with how good it was.
All in all this was a random afternoon stop turned into a great evening.. definitely needed a taxi :-/
I had a few drinks at the bar with a friend on a Saturday evening. When we arrived, no one was tending to potential customers. We had to wait for 15 minutes to place our order, which was delivered promptly. After our first round was served, the bartender vanished; it seems as though she was both tending the bar and the check-in for the hostel. We had to go hunting for her to get a second round of beers. Pricing was reasonable; service was terrible; but the beers were delicious. The draw of the small batch local brews is enough to make up for the slow service, otherwise we would have left after round one. Their homemade ginger beer and the barleywine were the highlights of the evening, but the rest were quality and well worth going back for.
