Beautiful, friendly, and supremely relaxing! We stayed three nights at the start of our trip. The restaurant was delicious, the staff kind and welcoming, and the accommodations very comfortable. This was a delightful couple's getaway.

Like living in paradise! The beach is clean and close by. Servers are nice and attentive. Will bring you drinks to the beach cabanas, with no extra charge. All the staff will help you with suggestions and are happy to call a cab for you. The cabanas are truly in the jungle so be ready for local wildlife to enter your room unannounced. It's worth the long treck from San Jose!! Do it! It's very safe and affordable.

The hotel has a very nice rustic design and is surrounded by beautiful jungle trees just in front of the beach. What I liked most about the beach is that it is not so crowded like other beaches in the area and you have almost the whole beach for your own. Additionally, the food of the restaurant is delicious! Especially at night the restaurant has a very cozy flair, but it is also nice to relax at the beach club during the day with some tasty natural juices or cocktails. Another amenity of the hotel is that the tour agency Caribe Fun Tours has its office directly at the hotel to book tours and transportation services. The whole staff is extremely friendly and attentive, so I can absolutely recommend staying at Banana Azul.

What an amazing time we had!!! Thanks to the relaxing atmosphere, the setting and the staff's attention to details our trip was something we'll remember forever. We rented one of the villa and if you are looking for privacy this is it. The inviting garden by the dipping pool is fantastic and the layout is perfect, although I wish the mattresses would have been more comfortable, that being said nothing else but chilling in a perfect setting. Thanks you again for your dedication guys and to have made this trip so cool and chilled!
We'll see you again.

My fiancé and I stayed here for a full week and we absolutely loved every minute of it! The staff was great and went out of their way to accommodate any needs that we had. We miss Brownie (the hotel dog)! The beach-side food and drink service was one of the best experiences during our stay. We planned on eating a majority of local food (which we still did), but the on-site restaurant was so fantastic, we kept coming back for more!
This property is nestled just far enough away from town, and took roughly 5 - 10 minutes to bike there from the resort. Rentals were at a fair price. Staff can even arrange tours for you, including transportation!
This was one of our most memorable trips, and we'll definitely be returning soon!

Amazing experience! Staff was wonderful and the whole resort is pristine. Definitely one of my top favorite trips. I have to dock one star because the hot tub is not a “hot” tub, it would have felt so nice with a drink in hand but no heater! Come on! Otherwise everything I could have asked for.

Wonderful location on Playa Negra. We stayed in the villas which were very comfortable and had several amenities (two bathrooms, kitchen, private pool) to make life easy.

Over priced drinks and not great breakfast but lovely waiter on the beach . It is okay but full of very noisy americans who probably think that their loud voice is the norm worldwide. sorry . strange that all prices are in US$. we are in Costa Rica viva el Imperialismo Americano .

Great location, great food, clean and nicely decorated rooms with BEAUTIFUL balconies. Cheap bike rental makes for easy travel to the surrounding towns, lovely owner and friendly cats. Best part for early risers like myself: coffee is ready at the beach at 5:30am so you can sip a cup as you watch the sun rise. Would definitely recommend!

We absolutely love this place! It was worth the crazy drive from San Jose. The grounds are beautiful, found a sloth in one of their trees! An aquarium style pool for koi and turtles run along side the restaurant. The staff are friendly and very accommodating and the food, especially dinner, was amazing! 5 star quality. I would recommend this place for sure! The beach was niceblack sand. A waiter will get you drinks or meals and deliver them to your beach chair as you soak up the sun!

The main hotel has 4 star hopes on a 3 star plan. Restaurant puts out great food, but expect to wait a LONG wait before the friendly but way too laid back staff figures it out.
The main hotel we stayed in an "ocean view room #4" and well if you lean out the balcony you can sorta see the ocean. Big patio and a small bedroom. Spent the rest of the trip In the new villas Verde across the road and these are really nice! Pinch yourself nice. Beach access is easy and there are a large number of places to hang wiith beach bar service that turns out good drinks but are in no hurry to do it.
Super chill base camp. Villas are the way to go if you can afford them. Would come again!response / report this review -

Absolutely loved our stay! Excellent service, friendly and kind. The dogs and cats around are an extra touch of home.
The food is great, but make sure to talk to them before ordering if you have dietary restrictions.

These guys really know how to deliver the full meal deal. The rooms are comfortable, with several having ocean views. The staff is friendly and helpful. The gardens are beautiful. The food in amazing. They also have chairs and umbrellas and food / drink service on the beach. I really love this place! Just be aware, they don't take kids under 16..
