This hotel is comfortable. I liked the customer service and the attitude of the housekeeping lady who took care of us was very nice.
The hotel is in the middle of where the action is 😊 . I read reviews about how loud it was in there, but I didn't hear any noise at all.
Stayed in the hostel. It was everything I needed for a one night stay. Had lockers I could lock up my bag, beds were clean, there was AC and a bathroom for just for my dorm room. Staff was particularly nice. Would go back absolutely. Location couldn't be better.
Amazing location and value for money in the heart of San Jose. We had a front room facing the street and it was quite noisey at night since the windows didn't close entirely. Would request a back room next time. A 24 hour reception was nice to have and we felt safe in the area.
Very nice and clean. Staff helpfull. Beds comfortable. The only thing was some noise outside.
The air conditioning and WIFI were not working. Witch is something that can happen, but the staff was not very helpful and friendly about fixing those issues. I felt they didn't really care at all. I do not recommend this hotel.
Great family owned mid-range hotel. Excellent location. Good breakfast.
I stayed at El Maragato last November. The hotel is about 30 mins. by taxi from the airport which lies on the outskirts on the city on a plateau. The hotel is in the heart of the shopping and museum district with literally everything located less than a mile away. I went right after Southwest Airlines opened their international terminal at Hobby Airport in Houston, TX. Direct flight into SJO. I speak pretty good Spanish and went alone to decompress and explore a new place.
PROS: All the staff speaks fluent English, are polite and know the city. This place is CHEAP. This is NOT A WESTERN STYLE HOTEL. With that being said I can think of no better place to stay for a true immersive experience in San Jose. Even if you get lost off the main drag, there is NOWHERE anymore seedy than any major US city. The people are truly friendly and understand that you are their "guests" and you are greeted with a smile and a pura vida even in the poorest areas. Con Gusto Costa Rica!
CONS: Costa Rica, while being the best/ most beautiful /secure Central American nation is still a Central American nation. For me, this meant last year during my trip the whole portion of downtown I was in lost electrical power. In Costa Rica, this means no water to your room, no elevator to the 8th floor, etc. etc. because only western style hotels have generators. If I had to do it all over again I would still stay there. I made friends with the locals and my fellow guests at the hotel.
Well located, however online the reservation system can be a little tricky and not that accurate
Very helpful staff and good location in the centre of San Jose
The only place I stay when visiting San Jose. Great price, clean, safe, friendly and right in the middle of the city. Walk out the front door right onto the central avenue and Cultural Plaza with the National Theater and Gold Museum. The central market is a few blocks west and the National Museum is a few blocks east. Shared rooms for backpackers available and comfortable private rooms with spacious baths, satellite TV and AC.
