Good location for Ojochal. Very cute lodge with a great pool and garden.
This is a very pretty place as described, it's surrounded by plants and nature and everything is very picturesque. The pool is great but you'll need to ask for towels at reception. So I could see it being very relaxing if it were not for the design flaws that stressed me out.
The open air design of the cabins turned out to be very inconvenient, since there were no screens or ways to seal the entire wall of the cabin, just some gauzy curtains, which were pretty but didn't cover all the gaps, this is Costa Rica and there are a lot of bugs, which are attracted to light. So with the open air design of the cabin we found the main level of the building basically unusable after dark. the living area only had one lantern over the table, so there were no lights in the sitting area for reading unless you brought your own light. And the lantern over the kitchen table just attracted bugs to interrupt your meal.
There is also no way to secure any of the cabin besides the bedroom.
The AC is only in the bedroom and cannot impact any other space from the design of the cabin, The main room has a fan but we were here in March and the outdoor temp is _30-35C so it was VERY hot for us.
Close to road with traffic all night long

So with the open air design of the cabin we found the main level of the building basically unusable after dark. the living area only had one lantern over the table, so there were no lights in the sitting area for reading unless you brought your own light. And the lantern over the kitchen table just attracted bugs to interrupt your meal, we had one cool looking but large beetle leap out onto my plate and into my face the one night, in the morning it attracted a swarm of wasps into the lantern, so every time it was dark and the lantern was on there would be bugs circling it. So we started trying not to turn the lights on downstairs after dark and then my husband was startled by a 2 inch grasshopper that had snuck in and was sitting on the table in the dark. Which made you wonder what else was hiding. And the light switch for the interior cabin lights is in the middle of the cabin, no by the door.
The two kitchen windows have screens on them, however the one side is open to the living room with no screens on it's walls, so cooking after dark brings bugs in as well. And since it's basically an open air kitchen it had a constant supply of those micro ants you see in costa rica running along the counter tops (also in the bathroom) so if you're going to cook it will be difficult, there is one small kitchen towel and sponge, and if any food is on the counter for 5 min you'll have a mini swarm of ants, with nothing on hand to clean them up with. I left a bag on the counter when we arrived an hour later it was covered in these ants and all i could think to do was to wash it off in the shower and then try and dry it without collecting more bugs.
There is also no way to secure any of the cabin besides the bedroom, the property feels safe, but the front gate is not locked and you can only padlock the bedroom door, so either you move everything into the bedroom before you leave or take your chances.

When we got there we unpacked our groceries into the fridge, but with the humidity the refrigerator coils were entirely encased in a giant block of ice, so the rest of the fridge was barely cool, and was not cooling down any more food. it was almost 6pm when we notified the desk, we got a new fridge after following up the next morning around 10am. Good thing we used up the really perishable items that first night.
So it is pretty as pictured but with all the stress of trying to deal with the other flaws it was not as relaxing as I had hoped.
Parfait !
Recomendable totalmente.
It's great !
As wedding photographers in Costa Rica, we have stayed in many hotels throughout the country.
Hotel Tangara Azul by far has been the best. It is clear the owner put much thought into decorating and accommodating the lovely cabins, from the quality shampoos and soaps, to the beds and curtains. as well as the landscaping.
The hotel and grounds are beautiful and quiet, and the onsite restaurant, Citrus, which is run by the same owner, has excellent food which is presented well and has great customer service and ambiance. When we return to Ojochal for another wedding, we will be staying at the Botique Hotel Azul.
Additionally, the owner is very courteous, friendly, and professional, and speaks English and Spanish fluently, among other languages.
Beautiful place
