So many déceptions.
We have booked a tour in la Guajira (the desert), a tour which costed us around 110€/pers (quite expensive here). It's a two days tour starting from Santa Marta. First of all we never got information about preparations, things to cary on (like water, hot cloches for the night). We had an appointment at the hotel at 4.30 am the first day. The thing is we couldn't stay inside because we couldn't the the bus arriving. So we waited outside 45 Minutes with no information. We thought they had forgotten us. Then when the bus arrived : no excuses. After having collected every members of the excursion in the bus (very old bus with really bad dampers), We finaly started the tour arround 6.30 am. The first day was a long Journey to get to the point, but we knew that. We arrived at Cabo DE la Vela in the desert and visited the pilon de azucar. Worth to be seing. During the day we had lunches in the same restaurant. Same meels. Some were proposed Langustines, but not us. When I realised that, I asked for the diner this plate. I was told that There were no more. The problem is some people had it for diner. Then started the night in hamacs on the beatch. Really humid, uncofortable, and noisy. In the morning, waken up by a horn of a car at 5.30 we took a breakfast and went to the salt "factory". Nothing different from other contries' factories. We stoped at Riohacha to eat and to visit. The City is not beautiful and There is nothing to do. The guide gave us 1h after the lunch. But at the meeting point we waited one hour more. 40 degres, No information. The bus had to change a wheel. But no information still, while guide was informed and not far from here. Then took the bus and made a longgggggg Journey.
I am desapointed about all this things compared with the price. But also, the tour could be magnificient by visiting families or other things original. Moreover the guide explained us some things but didn't do his job. He should have explained us lot of things insted of sleeping at the back of the bus. We recomand to make such a tour but with more than two days and deffinitely with another company
Great experience! The Wiwa guides were awesome! Very patient, understanding, and kind. You can arrange to leave your larger luggage at the office in Santa Marta where the tour departs, and take only what you need for the multi-day trek.
Excellent company! Friendly, supportive and fun staff. Led by indigenous guides. A portion of their proceeds fund humanitarian support of these local indigenous people.
Amazing experience. Amazing tour guides - I would recommend this agency over the other 4 agencies that go to Ciudad Perdida because it is run by indigenous Wiwa people and not by external guides with no connection to the place. I find it more rewarding contributing to them and the preservation and sharing of their culture than others.
I would not recommend going to Ciudad Perdida during peak season. ALL agencies, including Wiwa, overbook trips during the December and January season. I went in early January and more than 20 people had to share single beds every night of the tour, the facilities were not built to handle the number of people climbing during this time, accomodation and food were very poorly handled! This was the case for all agencies.
The Sierra Nevada is a very complex place with campesinos owning the campsites, the government owning part of area, indigenous people having rights over the area and agencies that do not work together to make sure the number of people going to Ciudad Perdida is Sustainable. It is important to have this in mind when booking a trip. I left with the sensation that other agencies like Expotour or Baquianos have special treatment by the owners of campsites than the Wiwas because they have bigger groups and still had enough spaces to sleep. This might be a perception or a result of the peak season but something to keep in mind.
Excelente opcion para subir a ciudad perdida. Unica agencia con guias Indigenas (nacion Wiwa) que describen desde su cultura y conocimiento ancestral las maravillas de este camino.
You have to go to the ciudad perdida with this agency since this is the only one providing a service with indigenous. Wiwa are very shy so do not hesitate to ask them question they will slowly but surely open up.
We had an amazing experience with our guide Juandaza. I would recommend to do the tour with Wiwa absolutely as what you will live here will make more the 70% of the quality of the global experience. Speechless
Wiwa Tour Excelente Trekking , perfecto el tour, ademas eramos el unico grupo que contaba con guianza indigena.
Algo diferente, pero muy bueno
Was a beautiful experience. We were the only group who went to Lost City with a native guide. We met a Shaman and slept in a Wiwa village.
