I really enjoyed my time at Nueva Lengua. The school offers, besides a really good spanish class, a lot of activities which are different week to week. Furthermore it is possible to "switch" the city as this school is also present in Medellin and Cartagena. I highly would recommend you to make use of it to see also different parts of Colombia. :)
After one week in Bogota and one week in Cartagena I really could feel that my Spanish improved a lot.
Nueva Lengua in Bogotá is an excellent school. The staff is friendly, helpful, and knowledgeable. The teachers are excellent and personable. For the price of a week of classes you get so much more. If you want, there are after school activities every day, all in Spanish. The students are friendly and tend to make groups to go out dancing, drinking, and exploring Bogotá. It is definitely worth the money to learn the language, culture, and have your own little community while in the city. Highly recommended.
Immersion instruction is not for beginners, it is for people who have a basis in the language already. You must be able to understand the written and verbal lessons in Spanish.
We were beginners and it was ridiculous to expect to learn through assimilation in a foreign language. Did not work. Big waste of time and money.
That saidthe instructors and staff were wonderful especially the Latin dance which was in body language, the truly universal language. Nice facilities, ok location. Not safe at night.
Expensive classes, even if you enroll for a long period and not worth the quality of classes. Teachers often arrived unprepared for classes and tried to just teach class off the cuff. As well as this, no textbooks are used so all material is created by teachers. While some of the material is good, the content of some handouts was quite poor. The teachers are all very nice but some take their work more seriously than others.Salsa and cookery classes were really enjoyable as well as the day trips they organize but I feel you would learn more Spanish at other schools.
I would definitely recommend this school! The teachers are really good and the whole team is really helpful and welcoming to such an extent that you will spend lots of time at the school even after the end of the classes.
I had an amazing time studying Spanish with Nueva Lengua. I arrived with a very bad level of spanish and after 5 months I was completely fluent and be able to enroll at the university of Madrid! I took classes in Bogotá, Cartagena and Medellín and all the schools are great! The atmosphere as well is very good and everybody is really friendly. There are a lot of activities included in the price you pay, and they are all very funny. This is the best place to study spanish!
Un lugar bueno para que los extranjeros aprendan español.
I took two weeks of Spanish at the Nueva Lengua Cartagena location. Intense immersion. Wonderful teachers! I stayed in Les Lezards a B&B about twenty steps from the school. Very clean B&B and great staff.
The teachers are kind, patient, encouraging and really know their subject. I'm learning nuances of the language that I never even imagined before. Learning a lot!
Classes -yes! Homestay -no!
Bogota: I definitely recommend the classes. I do not recommend the home stay with this program.
The classes are great here. The professors are knowledgeable, friendly and put a lot of effort into their lessons. I highly recommend the classes.
**School supplies are expensive here, be sure to bring your own notebook, folder and pens**
However, the program did not match me well with a host family (they placed me, a non-smoker, with a smoking family). Further, the program was unable to find me another family within their program nor did they assist me in finding a new place outside of their program. None the less, when I did find a hostel on my own, they did reimburse me appropriately. I have a couple of years' experience with language schools and host families and this program has had the worst resource pool of host families as far as quantity and support.
