Amazing variety of artifacts , especially golden ones, of pre colonial times. Spend 1 - 2 hours here in not too crowded museum. Just 4000 COP entry. Good quality food and coffee/juices in the affordable restaurant.
A quick little museum that would cost you about 2USD. Signage is in Spanish and in English and the fine pieces that are made out of gold are very fun to look at. It would take maybe only an hour or two if you were walking quickly through the museum. The top floor has a small interactive area for kids but it isn't that spectacular.
After the walk through there's a small coffee shop on the bottom floor that has pretty good coffees and a small seating area to take a short break before taking on the city again.
We were lucky enough to meet a guide outside the museum who works part time at the weekends. Part-indigenous Misca, he provided a wealth of narrative and specialist knowledge that brought the museum to life. The fascinating and historic exhibits are so much more interesting with expert and enthusiastic guidance and I would highly recommend any English speakers to try and find a local guide as there is little English signage and it is not of a high standard. The exhibits themselves and the history behind them are fascinating if explained properly.
This is the most extensive, and informational museum about gold anywhere I have ever seen or read about. They have good pieces that are close to four thousand years old here.
All displays are in English and Spanish which is very nice. The museum is huge Four gigantic floors of information, displays, movies, etc. Absolutely mind blowing how they have preserved all of this.
The museum is in the heart of LA Candelaria, and easy to find.
Coffee shop on bottom floor has won many many awards, don't miss it.
Good museum where you can learn a lot about Colombian history and (of course) gold. It's doable in two hours but I would recommend more time because it's worth it. Cafe and shop in ground floor, games and interactive on top floor. Bags can be left in storage free of charge. Air conditioned so bring change of clothes if you come in sweaty.
While the English descriptions maybe lacking in some areas. The museum exhibits are amazing and definitely worth visiting.
Went to Bogotá’s Museo del Oro on a Sunday so the entry was free. I heard that the museum would be overly crowded on Sundays but did not find that to be the case. Exhibits were very nicely presented with descriptions in both English and Spanish. Give yourself 2 hours or so to see everything at a leisurely pace. The only thing that was a bit disappointing was the circular gold room. I had trouble finding it since it is hidden behind a wall on the 2nd floor, and you have to wait until the wall opens before you are let in to see the exhibit. There is a brief light show, then the doors open and everybody exits. It would be better if there was more time to view everything in the room. Otherwise, I highly recommend visiting this museum.
Fantastic place, free entry on Sundays and walked around without feeling rushed. Nice that 99% of the exhibits were in both Spanish and English for us lazy non Spanish speakers, also the announcements were also in both languages I was pleasantly surprised that it was English, not US English used though! If and when I return to Bogota I will. Hopefully be speaking more Spanish and will come back to the museum and perhaps take the guided tour!
Had a great time visiting. As a chemist it was very interesting to read about the sciency aspect of metal work and the origins of metallurgy. You should definitely go.
Also, entrance is free for several hours a day during the weekends..
It is nice and quick. But we called ahead for an English translator and when we arrived they did not have one. They do have headsets though.
Pretty cool to see the gold in a gold dedicated museum. The admission fee is super cheap (less than 10000 COP and the descriptions in the museum have English descriptions! So you won't be lost! Also check out the gift shop on your way out. Lots of neat stuff there too.
Amazing experience and exposition! Sensitively made, with respect to diversity of all cultures. I admired symbolic / shamanic interpretation of golden things. Easy with english audio guide.
Very impressive museum! It is incredible to see what people could do with gold thousands of years ago. They not only show the gold artifacts but also show you the process they used to make them. It is a must go place in Bogota!
The best Gold museum ever seen neat collection integrated with lot of human history. :-)
Being free on Sundays there is no reason not to visit this museum with its huge collection of beautiful gold art from pre colonial times and extensive English explanations about manufacturing techniques meanings etc.
A must see in Bogotá, it is a stunning collection of gold jewelry and artifacts of ceremonial use by the different indegenous tribes that inhabeted the country before the conquistadors arrived. Even if most of their pieces were melted, this unique collection represents a link to the past and a unique way to try to understand how they lived.
Amazing history and interesting artifacts! It's a must go for sure, free entrance on Sundays (not that it's expensive at all) but beware of the crowds.
Fantastic explanation of the crafting techniques for creating gold ornaments. Extensive explanation of the use of gold by the various Colombian indigenous groups. The most interesting exhibit for me was on the cosmology of the ancient people and how they incorporated their gold artwork into their beliefs. There is a nice gift shop and café also.
