Awesome place to get a bit of history about the cocoa. They have good samples of their chocolate and other uses such as tea, coffee, liquor, etc. I also tried some of their desserts and they were pretty good.
Interesting experience, happy to support Colombian coffee farmers as a viable alternative crop. tasting the various types of chocolate was fun and there was no pressure to buy anything. We did enjoy some drinks in their cafe, and the make your own Mayan Hot Chocolate was - while quite simple - very delicious.
Also, very well air conditioned, which is nice in the Cartagena heat.
This is a scam! Very high prices for everything! I think you can buy better chocolate or coffee elsewhere. The have even a local cafe there and they served awful coffee, although we are in Colombia :) Wouldn't waste my money on this museum, Cartagena has definitely nicer places and tours.
The staff were extremely helpful and even offered to speak English. The museum provided a brief history of chocolate making. Many free samples of chocolates, drinks and products. They accepted USD and COP. Great place to go while in Cartagena as it is free and a great experience.
Nice museum. Free chocolate tasting. They give you a nice history, overview and an explanation of how Colombian chocolate is made.
They don't force you to buy anything, but the stuff is so good, it's hard not to.
Do visit if you get a chance and take it all in. We bought some chocolate face moisturizer 😂
In terms of chocolate quality is not a good reference. Overpriced for the quality of the chocolate bars who doesn't outshine at all.
The "museum" part is a lure. Excellent artisanal chocolate sweets at rather high prices. Free sampling.
Fantastic spot to learn about the history of chocolate. Downstairs they sell products you never thought about that this can be made out of chocolate. Absolutely worth a visit.
There isn't much to the museum, just two small rooms, but the store and its employees are charming. Lots of free samples, and it truly feels like they're more interested in sharing a good time than pressuring you to buy.
Nice space that walks you through the chocolate making process. They have a inside area for sandwiches and hot chocolate etc. Has ac, so can escape the heat. They have a 2 hour or 40 minute chocolate making class and the kids enjoyed. Staff pointed to 40 to keep kids happy.
I liked it and worked out well. Make sure to check the KGB bar on corner.amazing setup.
What a cool little find, having a cup of excellent hot chocolate. All kinds of chocolate related candies, liquor, butter, etc. Friendly staff, self guided tour, tells the history of the Cocoa Bean and it's production
English speaking staff available to show you free samples and we're able to navigate my nut allergies. They gave me way too much chocolate liquors and I bought loads of chocolates as gifts! They explain what they have and the basic chocolate making process, but the museum part is self guided (available in English too)
Everything is the cafe is sweet, so if you're tying to have a coffee to get all that sugar out of your system be warned!
The cafe is great and so is the little museum which is quite informative. However the "bean to bar" workshop is a lie. You see only a small fraction of the steps at the start and then basically just pour pre made chocolate into a mould as the "making". The major steps such as extracting the cacao liquor and pressing to get the butter are performed off site and they just buy these and bring them in. This is not explained up front and what is left is a small part of the whole. The kitchen was also quite messy and a little dirty.
