Nice resort between airport and Santa Marta town.
Friendly staff, average food, great swimming pool and a calm beach.
    Cons: it's far from any local activities - downtown, commerce;
The beach is constantly crossed by different sellers. After sunset is not secure to stay. You share your breakfast with pigeons, other birds and iguanas that assault your table
The worst: the present (Feb/2018) construction of a huge new hotel tower too close to the present one. It gives you cement dust and machinery noise during all day.

Se went for a Journey and our experience was not the best.

First of all access is a little bit complicated and little bit dangerous ar night.

The prices of the Journey is High compared with other places and for all the services you get access to.

The Journey does not include towels neifther access to the Main restaurants. It Onkyo include access yo the pool antes to one restaurant.

Only one personas of the staff was kind and polite the others were upset like of you were bothering them.

Facilities are clean, well decorated, in a well maintained.

The Food of the restaurant was excellent and well served, fresh and fast.

Service at the beach is nota good, they Watch for you once by hour si you better go ti the bar or restaurant to take tour own service.

I Guess that if you are hosted the experience is mucho better but for the Journey it is not.

We have been here for less than 24 hours and it gets progressively worse.
We’re underwhelmed, to say the least. It’s supposed to be a 5 star hotel and the price reflects that, but it hasn’t been anything more than a second-rate hotel so far. Here are some reasons:

At the main lobby we were received by Yessica. She didn’t speak English, which wasn’t a problem for me as a native Spanish speaker, but my partner speaks English only. It’s just unusual for a high-end hotel not to have English speakers at the front desk. Yessica also doesn’t have customer service skills. With a few exceptions, the customer service here has ranged from half-hearted to surly.

We got a Mini Bungalow with two beds, one so-called full bed (very tiny for a couple) and another twin bed — the purpose of which isn’t clear. There’s not even one luggage stand for unpacking.

We were given two cards at the registration for beach towels but they won’t give you more than one towel per person under any circumstances. Such extravagance is not allowed!

At the breakfast buffet there’s an Egg Station, and they hide the bacon so you can have it only if you ask for it. Overall the resort gives the impression that they are trying to economize at every turn. We ordered two gin & tonics, and they brought us one small tonic bottle to share.

On a positive note, the beach is very nice: soft, fine sand and not too crowded. Unfortunately, the beach experience is marred by vendors who are more numerous and persistent than seagulls. Some will even shake bells to rouse you from slumber under your kiosk, lest you miss the opportunity to buy their wares. Inexplicably, the resort not only condones this, they sanction it. Many vendors wear orange vests emblazoned with “Irotama autoriza.” Be prepared to spend most of your beach time saying “no gracias” repeatedly.

    More to come

Now we are at the end of our vacation, and, fortunately, we visited the Customer Service office yesterday. It’s run by a very nice girl, Alejandra, who wrote down all our bad experiences and, just an hour later, started to solve them.

She really tried hard to make our experience better and apologized for the things that had gone wrong. Nevertheless, the hotel has serious problems that would require 100 Alejandras to begin to resolve.

This has been a mixed experience, mostly annoying. Some things fine some others require a lot of improvement, here's why:

    1. On the upside breakfast is included, a variety of local food and exotic fruit and much more. Do be aware, the crows and pigeons are ready and attacking your plate of food if you're not watching, but this is the price you pay eating Oceanside under the trees. At least there are no flies, or hardly any.

    2. The beach is lovely, my daughter fascinated with the appearance of gold washing on shore and the exotic wildlife. At one point we saw 15 iguanas at once. I did expect white sand, but it's black and brown, but clean. The cargo ships in full view along the horizon, I could do without. Warning: The beach vendors, annoying!!! One may be may be interested in buying but do not dare. Only one demonstration of curiosity and they are all on you at once, coming out of the trees, harassing you, you can hardly breathe. And additionally prices are double and triple. For example bead bracelets on the beach for 8 dollars and eventually sold for 3 dollars. Of course in pesos, but that was the equivalent in dollars.

    3. The in house travel agency, offers many day trips, we chose Playa Blanca with optimism. We were promised a four hour trip of spectacular joy. We left at 8:30 a.m. A ride to the boat, the boat to the aquarium and then the heartache. I am open to aquariums but I do have standards. The dolphins and fish live in a very small pool, maybe a fraction the size of the smallest in a Sea World Park. The tour includes boats and entrances to the aquarium. Additional fees follow, $200k per person (about US $70), nearly $300 for a family of four, to swim with these poorly raised dolphins for only 15 minutes. Then they drive you to the beach and you are basically obligated to pay $30k (US $10) for a tent or you can cook in the sun on the sand, your choice! Lunch is not included. There are no options, you are trapped. Also important, if you are wearing hotel wristbands, you are most definitely charged more. I gave my feedback to the hotel to no avail. The hotel tour organizer was only defensive, taking no responsibility for misrepresenting. I was only trying to help. I went from wanting to buy 4 tours to no more, since there is no way of knowing what IAM really buying. Additionally, this was my summer vacation 30 years ago. I would have liked to have seen some things changed, or at least the aquarium, it was so archaic.

Has a long trail for around 1km by the beach which is very nice to walk. If you're a guest, you can access pools and jacuzzis from different buildings, each with a different atmosphere

3 friends and I had decided to book the penthouse suite which came with a private pool and jacuzzi at the Irotama resort. We spoke with the main booking agent at the resort in person with regards to having friends over that were traveling from a nearby city during Carnaval season, and was told that it would just be a surcharge to the room for having people over. That was fine for us and we decided to book the beautiful penthouse. Later when our friends arrived around 8pm, they were completely denied entrance to the hotel. We explained our situation to the people at the front desk to no avail and they even called their supervisors. We spent 2 hours at the front desk talking to people and at the end of it all, they denied our friends entrance and our friends had to go find another hotel to stay at. The next day I spoke to the manager of the hotel, who said that the situation should not have occurred in that manner and told us we would be compensated. We returned to our room and waited for a response which came a couple hours later and it was that the resort could not do anything for us. BEWARE do not book here if you plan on having people over!!!!! Overall it is a resort with good amenities in a nice area, but the way staff handles issues is completely unreasonable.
