Beautiful little lakeside town perfect for a few days of relaxation. Its got a very attractive main square with a beautiful white church that holds the main focus. In the centre is a large fountain that is lit up at night which is the perfect centrepiece of the square with different food stalls around the inner edge with cafes, restaurants & a few hotels around the outside.
The cafes & restaurants provide the perfect way to spend time eating, having a drink & to watch the world go by.
Away from the main square are equally attractive gaily painted buildings containing small & more local cafes & shops selling food, drinks, trinkets, bags, souvenirs etc.
The man made lake provides various water activities such as boat rides, water skiing & a big zip line over the lake.
The big rock nearby is the main tourist attraction & is worth a couple of hours to visit it. However lunchtime queues at the ticket booth & steps can be lengthy.
This is the destination for Medellin & Bogotas middle classes for weekends & public holidays & is a genteel holiday resort.
Peaceful & beautiful until the night life kicks in from 9pm till 3am with loud music from various bars & clubs.
So beware if staying in the middle of the town!

Guatape Is a good town to visit the food is good. You can take a traditional breakfast with arepa, beans, rice and coffee if you want, and the fish is good in taste and smell. They have a lot of trips on boats, the prices are good and the travel is good to relax yourself

Climbing "La Piedra" was a great experience in itself. We walked the 700+ steps with people of many countries, legs burning but living every minute. The town of Guatapé itself, a short and inexpensive ride away, is charming and beautiful with great food, cafes, water sports and the warm, welcoming Colombian people. A day trip is highly recommended!

Colorful town with good restaurants and hotels. At 1920m it's a bit chilly, so wearing only a T+shirt won't be enough to keep you warm during the early morning. From here you can enjoy tours by boat over the lakes, even to the big rock "Piedra". If you want to know how the best coffee tastes, go to La Viña and tell them. To me it was 10 out of 10.

One of the most scenic towns in Colombia. A Must if you travel to Medellin, just a few hrs away. Great for spending a weekend walking around and taking great pictures.

The nature is simply impressive, it will amuse you sitting at the 750th step admiring it. The entrance costs 18.000 pesos colombianos and the structure counts on restaurants, shops and toilets. It is definetly worth the visit, even though the stairs and the viewpoint are ugly and don't really integrate to the rock (as it should!).

Colorful and picturesque village only two hour from Medellin. Located on the shore of a beautiful lake there are plenty of options to enjoy the stay such as canopy, water sports, boat trips and many good restaurants. Great for a weekend scape from the city

This place looks like Shire if it was partly under water. One of the best I views ever seen. You can do rock climbing on the big rock. It s allright if you like slab climbing. There are two multipitches that goes all the way up.

This is an incredibly colorful town. Very relaxing to walk around but there is a lot to do and see at the same time. There are lots of water activities on the lake. The climb to the big rock (peñon de guatapé) is a must.

Very bright colourful town near man made lake. Can get very busy at weekends due to close proximity to Medellin. There are many activities centres around the lake. In addition wide choice of restaurants and coffee shops to suit all budgets. There is a large granite outcrop Pierre el penol you can climb (by stairs) that gives exceptional views of entire area.

Lovely little town. Very colorful and full of history. Although you'll find it full of tourists it still holds true to its roots and local flavor. Make sure you go during the day with enough time to walk around and see the beautiful streets.
