Carpe Diem is a lovely hostel tucked into the mountains above Santa Marta in a village called Paso del Mango. It is not in Minca, but quieter and more beautiful. The streams and waterfalls nearby were a huge hit, but there is lots to do nearby. We stayed seven nights in a cabana with its own bathroom and it was very comfortable. The restaurant is good, if a bit repetitive. The best way to get here is with a motorcycle taxi, but Carpe Diem can arrange a 4x4 vehicle for you, for much more money. Plan to stay at least 2 or 3 nights to unwind and enjoy the nature, cacao farm and nature reserve as well as the hikes, views, pools and waterfalls.

It was just fantastic. In the beginning I had to get used to all the backpackers hanging around doing nothing but looking at their telephones (zombie like), but after a few days I started being like them (although without tattoo's ;-). This is just the ultimate place to unwind and do nothing! We booked the white cabin, at least I thought I did, but I actually booked a room. I was so happy that Kobe, the Belgium owner, switched us to the right place. He did this with so much charm and understanding (while it was my mistake). It's a lovely simple but totally adequate bungalow with a heavenly comfortable bed. We slept so so well. The whole compound is beautiful and the philosophy of Neele and Kobe (the owners) is just great. They use local staff, educate them in order to give something back to the community. Their managers are lovely Colombian ladies from around. Also the rest of the staff is super friendly and helpful. The 'resort' is made of local products, so bamboo from the forest next door and sand from the river down under. They use a lot of volunteers from all over the world to get this work done (they are still building). The food is awesome, really delicious and creative and very affordable, which is greatno worries about spending too much money. The shower is cold but I cheated serval times by cooking water in a pan in the communal kitchen (also a great plus that if you are really poor, you can cook for yourself). After 4 days we were really sad to leave Carpe Diem. Oooh and did we do anything sportive, yes! We did several beautiful hikes to waterfalls and swimming spots. Nobody aroundit was us and the beautiful nature and crystal clear waters.

Truly amazing place! The upper pool has a great view. The food here is the best I had my entire time in Colombia. They will organize various tours and treks for you, which are very well lead. Highly recommend staying here.

Stayed here just one night but wished we could stay longer. It is an absolutely gorgeous location - high up in the mountains, surrounded by beautiful forest. The hostel itself is lovely - 2 pools, pretty grounds, big dorms with contemporary bathrooms. Highly recommended!!

Absolutely beautiful place in the mountains not too far from Santa Marta. The food is excellent and reasonably priced for being so remote (main dishes between 20,000 & 30,000) and the 4-bed dorms are a steal at 25,000 a night. Plus you basically have a private pool with a view to die for. GO!

This was one of the nicest places we stayed in Colombia. You really feel like you are off the beaten track. Try get into one of the dorms at the top, they have their own pool that overlooks the surrounding mountains at their doorsteps. Note the road in requires access with a 4 wheel drive or motorbike, taxis can’t make it up and be prepared to possible walk a little if it has rained. Absolutely worth the effort though.

After travelling 11 months is South America, we ended up to the best accommodation that we have been in this travel. Tranquility is the key here, surrounded by vegetation in the Sierra Nevada of Santa Marta. We have chosen to stay in the dorms ''Mirador'' which is a detached house that have his own terrace with a swimming pool and on the top of that a beautiful view of the surrounding. Staff and owners are really nice and helpful. The place is really clean and price of the dorms was not expensive for the standards of the place. Overall we have spend 6 nights in the peaceful and beautiful place that is Finca Carpe Diem.

We took our three kids ages 7, 5, and 2 for 3 days in January 2017. We like rustic, and this place was perfect. Sleeping accommodations were great and fun. The kids loved the mosquito nets. Food is totally organic and homemade here. Breakfast was amazing. We made cheese from scratch, starting with milking a cow. We swam in waterfalls and jumped off rocks, hiked, visited an organic coffee farm.Kobe the owner is top notch.thank you.please support this paradise.go here!!!

Perfect place for when you want to chill. Even better for when you want to be active. Lots of waterfalls and places to swim around the hostel. There are multiple viewpoints with stunning views. They also orginize little trekkings, cocolate, and cacao tours. The staff was very friendly and the owners spoke good english.
