Philippe Starck's interior design is impressive. The food was less so. Go for the splendor of the design and ambience, but drinks&food do not match up.

LOVE Lan Club's atmosphere: dark, imaginatively decorated rooms, with quirky and deliberately mismatched furniture to boot! Also, one must appreciate the paintings on the ceilings, the randomly placed mirrors, and Bossa Nova soundtrack (Tom Jobin's "Insensitive" was played on a repeating loop a few times the night I was there). It's s fine place to drink some champagne and have a chat.

Great music, expensive drinks, good atmosphere, free entry, and closes late. On a Saturday night the house band [Jackson Twins & Zero] get the house rolling. The big upside is that it is no admission charge. Service is not always perfect but staff are friendly and they do pour a good cocktail with Manhattans costing about 60 RMB [Jun 2010]. Beer is pricey at 50 RMB for a 330 ml bottle of Tsingtao, so for some it could prove to be an expensive night out. On another plus the toilets are spacious and clean!

Day 2: Designed by Philippe Starck (expect dripping chandeliers, silk, and marble), this opulent club is over-the-top, as is its clientele. It’s Beijing’s hottest nightspot of the moment and a great place to people-watch as you end your day.
