this place was pretty disgusting. we did not have to go through a bunch of custom stuff, but the restrooms were challenging to use for a foreigner, and for an added plus side, our extended family members went to pick us up for an added plus. so we did not have to wait for a long shuttle

They call it international airport, staff do not speak English tho. At information desk they speak very bad English, at the luggage storage Chinese only.

Good airport. Spacious and well equipped. Only issue I had is that no one could understand english. At least if they could manage to guide the passengers will be sufficient. I had to face this issue when I tried find Terminal 1. Apart from that it a really good air port

There was not enough information desk and most clerks couldn't speak English well. So it was very hard to do everything. Also, their duty free shops didn't have many kind of things. And, after 8~9p.m. most restaurants and stores are gonna be closed.

Very strict security check which made me feel safe being in the plane later. Nice and modern airport but not a great choice of food available.

Chaotic airport marked by long slow moving lines across security and check in counters. Saving grace for the place is Rui Shan Fung, Chinese restaurant in the international departures section (pre check in). Highly recommend checking it out for a delicious and cheap meal. Note Wifi at the airport is very poor and logging in is a challenge in itself if you don't have a local mobile (which has a transit traveller is tough). Lounges aren't that fantastic either - overall loads of work required to improve the experience at Chengdu airport

Prepare to waste lots of time transferring between international and domestic terminals. There is no shared connection so once you land from abroad, you need to factor in plenty of time to collect luggage and check it in again. Don't expect people to queue but on the positive, your plane is likely going to get delayed or canceled so you'll have time to do all of this. And no, dont expect any compensation when that happens.

Chengdu is the better choice for stopover than Beijing. Less hassle and much more comfort. Only thing in Chengdu is that you have to check out with your full luggage and check it in again for the onward flight. The shops struggle with other languages and currencies, so be prepared with some chinese rimimbi if you want to buy something. Just for laugh: check the escalator built inside the luggage belts in the pick up area. They decorated it with some plants I have to smile everytime I pass it.
