Cheap vegetables, bad smells, yelling people, sounds bad right? Maybe not? Good place to save money, or experience some local culture. Be VERY carefull with your posessiones as the area swarms with pickpockets.

I love bustling markets and this one did not dissapoint. Tons of fruits and vegetables and spices. If you walk here from the main tourist areas you can take a path to see the giant four season murals.

Ate lunch here and probably the rudest, worst service I've ever had. Maybe that's part of the whole "mercado"experience, but the prices are outrageous for what you get (regular traditional food) with a side of fat, grumpy waiter.

Very typical place. Place here you can buy fruits, vegetables and related things. On the second floor there are the so called "picadas". Being in this place you'll feel the sense of being in a port city. Some poeple may find this place a bit dirty.

The local food market where locals go to shop. Lots of local flavor, colors and food. They have good seafood restaurants (and the banos) on the second floor. The the other original market was damaged by the last earthquake and it now closed. This market is easy to get to by walking or the local bus. Google maps will tell you what bus and where to catch it. On Saturdays there is a fun local informal antique market in nearby O'Higgins Plaza
