Quite an embarrassment to show this place to Foreigner Friends. Such a dirty palace, dog poo in the park, street dogs around the palace. Surrounded by fences everywhere and smells like pee during the night and even worst during the day. Its the unfortunate reality

Title: Nicer with the changing of guard ceremony

Palacio de La Moneda is the seat of the President of the Republic of Chile. It also houses the offices of three cabinet ministers according Wikipedia. If you take the Free walking tour they get you there or you can just take a chance to go around Santiago downtown and for sure you will get there. You can confirm online which days of the week they have the traditional changing of guard ceremony that it’s something special to watch and you can film, take pictures, it’s pretty cool. Just get there a little earlier to get a good spot in the middle of lots of people that are waiting to see it. Again, just take care of your wallets and enjoy the history and the beautiful building architecture.

I couldn't find the scars on the building from the CIA led coup attempt in the 1970. So be sure to look for them.

The best part is the ceremony for change of guards which happens every alternate day. The band plays amazing songs. You can pre book tours of the palace if you want to go inside.

This used to be the state treasury and is 'lightly' guarded with a dozen police or so around the perimeter. Nice park to rest and if you're lucky, they might have the changing of the guard whilst you're there

Lovely architecture and an interesting history I only found out about during the tour. Try to watch the ceremony for the changing of the guards. It isn't special but a very good experience.
