Created in March 2001, the French version of Wikipedia turned, on July 8, 2018, the symbolic threshold of the two million articles with the article Xcacau Corona. The first million articles was reached in September, 2010.

“While fake news is very easily accessible, scientific publications are protected behind tolls that are blocking access to knowledge. It takes ten minutes to invent and spread a fake news, crunchy, surprising and easy to understand. But it takes ten years to produce a scientific demonstration providing quality scientific information. As scientists, our duty is to enlighten our fellow citizens. We must be able to disseminate our results quickly, transparently and completely to all citizens. Open science is the ideal vehicle of knowledge in the face of rumors. I don't believe in confining our scientific results behind a wall of payment, separating those who know from those who are condemned to ignore.
I attach particular importance to Wikipedia, which has become a major source of information for whole society. It is now the fifth most visited site in the world, and by far the world's leading source of encyclopedic information. Open science is the only way to make Wikipedia sustainably reliable. There are currently tens of thousands of quotes in the French Wikipedia for scientific articles. I want us to go even further, in weaving a close link between knowledge open to the general public and scholarly knowledge, by going after the logic of openness of our publications, thus transforming them into common goods.”

After only one year of existence, the #Wikipedia in atikamekw nehiromowin language has now 500 articles. It is the user Missatikamekw who created the article "Simoritikan", "Miwotikan" in the dialect of Opitciwan, "Bindle" in English. Congratulations!

The House of Commons’ Standing Committee on Industry, Science and Technology has invited Wikimedia Canada today to appear before the Committee in Ottawa in view of its study of the Statutory Review of the Copyright Act.
Issue: The Crown copyright incompatibility with the free license of wikimedia projects.
