New Gallery opening in Rose Bay
Lunenburg county hosts a vibrant array of artists who are attracted by the unique charm, powerful landscapes and rugged shorelines of the area. So it’s no wonder that there is such a strong number of galleries all over the county. Thanks to a dream from Bonnie Misner and Kim Banks, there will be one more opening this month.
Both originally from the Annapolis Valley, Bonnie (who goes by “Bono”) is a recently-retired 35-year Laboratory Technologist in various hospitals including Kentville, Bridgewater and Liverpool, while Kim spent many years running a Bed and Breakfast and Farmer’s Market in his five-generation family farm outside of Berwick. Wanting to be closer to the ocean, they eventually settled in East Berlin, a small community outside of Liverpool, NS. It was here that they began to let their artistic creativity flow, and Wavewood was born, which further led them to move to a house in Rose Bay, with a building on the property perfectly suited for their gallery. Inspired by Bono’s daughter, Lynn Misner (who owns Power House Art in Lunenburg), Bono started painting. She mostly works in oils, creating rich landscapes with a special interest in lighthouses and abandoned places. Kim, after years of working with his hands at the farm, has taken to creating impressive sculptures with found pieces of driftwood and rootwood. The uniquely shaped driftwood, washed upon the shores all around Nova Scotia, is transformed into incredible sculpture and furniture such as lamps, tables, benches, mirrors, and anything else Kim’s imagination will allow him to create. The gallery will also feature the work of several other artists, including Lynn Misner, Stephen Ernst, Beverlee Banks Beaudet, Claude Gendron and Bruce Henderson. It will be open during the Summer from Thursdays to Sundays, 11:00am - 5:00pm, starting on Thursday, July 10th. Wavewood Designs is located at 90 Kingsburg Road, just past the Rose Bay General Store on the way to Hirtle’s Beach. Bono and Kim can be contacted at (902)-764-2255, or at wavewoodart@gmail.com. The work can be viewed on their website: http://misnerb.wix.com/wavewooddesigns.
