Drug infested and full of criminals. Those truly in need of help have been driven away and now call it "The Scaring Place". With it's designation as a low barrier shelter, this facility continues to attract the most entrenched part of the homeless population while making services unattainable for those with a true desire to get off the streets. Due to their fear of this criminal and often violent sub-set of the homeless population, other marginalized groups such as seniors and the disabled feel that attending the meal program or other services poses a personal risk and no longer go there for help. The facility is not considered safe for the general public and police have asked that local citizens not approach homeless people in the area over safety fears.
Currently providing food and other services to an encampment (Cliff Avenue tent city) of approximately 60-100 career criminals and drug addicts the crime rate in the area has tripled over previous years and continues to rise.
As a ministry branch of the Salvation Army this facility is supported through public donations, the church and through government grants. A donation to the Salvation Army is a donation to this facility - think carefully before you donate.response / report this review -
