This may look like a boring video of a bunch of dogs and their owners walking in a circle but it’s what you don’t see, the work it took to form this circle. Tonight we held a #dogshelpingdogs session for Jasper the #rotti ☺️ Jaspers been struggling with leash reactivity to both humans and dogs. He can react pretty badly at seeing a dog blocks away. We worked at improving Jaspers reaction to both humans without dogs and then with dogs. At one point during the first exercise one of our helper teams said to the group “wouldn’t it be awesome if one day Jasper joined the circle”. Little did she think tonight would be the night we welcomed Jasper into our circle. Jasper got to be apart of a working pack, a pack in movement together! 🐾🙏 Thanks to Briar, Jetta, Laika, Sonic, Tonka, Maple, Indy and all their awesome owners. Like & Share ~ Adoptable Lady 🐾
This gal has been working hard on her skills with us in hopes it will improve her behaviour at adoption events, the vet, and of course impress potential adopters, and attract a dedicated owner who will continue to keep up all her awesome training! 👇Real world dog training.. Pack Walk!👇 In a #packwalk the humans benefit from coming together, but the dogs thrive on it. Doing activities as a pack, moving as a unit, seeing and feeling their parents relax in the safety of numbers.. All are huge confidence boosters for them, not just their owners 💪 ..Rolling up on these guys last night for our Pack walk, seeing them all finding each other, standing together and being an awesome #dogcommunity I said to Shayla, it’s like they don’t even need us! That’s exactly our goal when we start training with any student, to get them to a place of comfort, knowledge and confidence, to where they no longer NEED us. Of course obviously they all stick around 😜 ☝️ But not because they’re still really struggling.. but because they want to! Because they love coming together with each other and sharing in each other success’ and supporting each other through bumps in the road. We’re not a clique, or a club, we’re a pack-we’re family ❤️ Our clients are not only awesome dog owners, they’re pretty awesome humans in their own right too! While this dog in the video likely requires a surgery to help correct it’s airway, the video does give us insight into the struggles of all breeds with terribly short muzzles like: Boston Terriers, Bulldogs, Frenchies, Pugs, Boxer’s, etc.
While it may give them ‘cute’ characteristics and human like expressions, it comes at the cost of their health. Just the other day I saw a picture of a bulldog from probably a hundred years ago, the dog looked much more like a Boston Terrier with a longer more functional muzzle. Certainly nothing like the bulldogs we see today. Breeding for looks has certainly impacted the functionality and health of many breeds. 😞

People often underestimate the change in dynamics, the extra training and of course management that is required when obtaining a second dog. Do not get another dog-for your dog. You get another dog because your up to the challenge and time it will require to learn and teach the new expectations within your ‘pack’ 😊 Impulse purchases, decisions made out of emotion rather than logic, are not the smartest bet for success. Take your time, do your research, and above all please respect the dog you have NOW and what they would enjoy in a housemate.

You must be more valuable than everything else to your dog.
The above statement can seem pretty impossible if you struggle with your dogs focus when there’s more exciting or distracting things happening around them.
Let’s face it, it’s one of the reasons why people call us. They have a hard time getting their dogs focus on them in distracting environments/situations.
Such as this park where Tonka, Aaron and Lesley had their private session last night.
We took their new and progressing tug game/reward system into the park to work on his basic obedience skills. Tonka had a long line on for back up/safety in case anything did tempt him.
But he was a perfect gentleman.
There were a ton of kids running around, kicking soccer balls, jumping, laughing, being kids. At one point a group of kids were chasing their soccer ball coming straight for Tonka.
The ball was intervened and given back to the kids just a few feet away from him and he didn’t even break a sit while we, the humans, handled the situation!
Real world training, it has it all!
Adults walking by pushing strollers, walking dogs on leash, standing around, sitting on park benches visiting.
People on bikes, skateboards, joggers, bunnies, birds, all the little critters.
The smells of grass, dirt, maybe garbage laying around, a BBQ in the distance.
City life in the background of a world hustling about getting ready to wind down another day.
This is what training our dogs should be about. It should be about getting them to a point where they can work with you anywhere! It should go past the front door of your house and the training facility.
But first you have to become more valuable than everything else to your dog!

A total disconnect.
It’s what Finns owners would say describing their walks with him.
They started walking Finn when he first came home as a small puppy. But then one day Finn put on the breaks every time they tried going for a walk.
So they stopped walking him. For a year.
Then they decided to try again. The first clip in the video is what a typical walk looks like for them. Finn completely checked out and going every which way.
The second clip we got his owner Tyler to walk Finn on a prong collar after doing some intro work of pressure and release. We’ve managed to help Finn physically slow down using a training tool in a way that makes sense to the dog and is fair.
Now the real work begins when we start helping him mentally slow down and check in with the human on the other end of the leash!

If the foundation of your training, or your relationship with your dog, doesn’t involve game play, it will without a doubt become a part of it after attending this seminar. If you’re already using game play in your training, then there’s really nowhere you should be but here, expanding your skillset even further!

The Balanced Pack has done wonders for our fur baby. Not only does she love going to daycare but the weekend pack walks, training classes and special events sets it apart from others. We had struggled for so long thinking our dog would forever have her issues and couldn’t improve but with the help if Izzie and Shayla our fur baby and I have both come a long ways (no longer do we hide behind cars on walks when other dogs pass by). Izzie and Shayla are extremely knowledgeable and passionate about helping dogs and their owners and treat all the dogs as if they were their own fur babies. Overall, The Balanced Pack is truly a family for your dog and you to be a part of and we are so happy to be pack members!

Can't believe how much my two fur kids have changed since attending classes! My two yahoos went from being undisciplined walkers to (almost) perfect company on our walks (there is always room for improvement :). We've also attended a couple socialization, agility and barn hunt classes and both dogs now realize that the world doesn't just revolve around them and that there are other canines that they can be friends with. Our male also relied on us to "play" but he has since discovered a new sense of self and will actually initiate play on his own and will even play by himself. He's also much better at playing with his sister which is nice when it's minus a million outside and you can't do anything with them. The girls show nothing but love for our kids and are quick to even give them tough love if they need it. Word of advice: The Romans didn't build Rome in a day so don't expect your dog to be better behaved after one session. You get out of your dog what you put into him/her so attend the classes, do the assigned homework, and you and your pup won't be disappointed! � �

The Balanced Pack has completely saved my relationship with my dog. Adopting a mixed breed rescue puppy at 8 weeks old was much more overwhelming than I anticipated and I muddled through trying to train her and manage her anxiety. Our first group puppy class was a huge disaster (not through Balanced Pack) but I didn't want to give up on having a well behaved and happy dog. I decided that private lessons were the way to go and I couldn't be happier with our progress. After three days I started noticing improvements and we are on to a new and better relationship. The care she receives at daycare is really wonderful as well. You can tell Shayla and Izzie really enjoy what they do and they do it well.

Our dogs & us have had a great experience with their training here. Both dogs have taken fun agility & participate in social, and one of our dogs has done barn hunt & learn to walk. We used to hate walking our dogs as it was always a fight with pulling & worrying that they were hurting their necks. We were also nervous having them around other dogs. The change has be amazing, we enjoy our walks now & are more comfortable with their behaviour around strange dogs, it's made such a difference. Thank you Izzie & Shayla!!

We love The Balanced Pack for so many reasons. Our puppy started here at 3 months and the stress level in our house immediately decreased! I wanted to expose my little man to different environments, dogs and experiences, which led us to try other classes and facilities. I can quickly tell which environments I prefer as soon as I walk into a facility. TBP is quieter with less echoes, and we're always greeted with a smile. The class sizes are really small which may result in a higher price, but worth the extra one-on-one attention and extra practice time/space. Izzie and Shayla always make time to address all of our concerns, and the alumni group socials/walks make being part of this community even better. Even though I'm still open to trying other facilities, my husband is not so easily convinced. Our little pup couldn't be happier and wouldn't be as successful without our training here, and he definitely wouldn't be as comfortable at another daycare without this kind, knowledgeable team looking out for him!
