“Superheroes have strength and courage, just like people who are facing a diagnosis or supporting a loved one. The idea of chemo scared me, but I decided to face my fear, just as superheroes do.”
When Sheri was diagnosed with ovarian cancer, she considered opting out of treatment on account of potential side effects. But she joined OVdialogue, an online community where women with ovarian cancer can connect with one another, and her mind soon changed.

Treatment #news: #Quebec and #Yukon have approved public funding of Lynparza for certain cases of recurrent BRCA-mutated #ovariancancer. The remaining provinces and territories are continuing deliberations and we are hopeful that this treatment will soon be available across the country.

Last weekend, hundreds of participants laced up for the 4th annual #Beaus5K in support of Ovarian Cancer Canada. The community gathered in memory of Vankleek Hill local and running enthusiast, Ashley Cowan and raised a total of $70,000. Thank you to all the participants, supporters and Beau's All Natural Brewing Co. for having the #ladyballs to do something about #ovariancancer. Congratulations to Anne Chase, winner of the 2018 Peggy Truscott Award of Hope. This Award recognizes Anne for her involvement, contributions and achievements within the community. Since Anne was diagnosed with #ovariancancer, she’s spent 20+ years supporting other women on their journeys, raising funds and advocating for much needed change across the country. Anne was on the Ovarian Cancer Canada Board of Directors and its National Research Committee for 9 years, she’s the founding member of the Saskatchewan Ovarian Cancer Survivors (SOCS), and she also organized the first Ovarian Cancer Canada Walk of Hope in her community.

Early detection is the key and more needs to be done to make this happen. I lost my wife in 2015 to this terrible disease as it was the later stages when it was found. Misdiagnosis also contributed and I think some doctors need to be more in tune with their patients and the symptoms instead of being so quick to pass it off as other things. If you don't agree with your doctor ask questions, be persistent and if you don't get the answers you want find another doctor it may save your life. I am walking in the Walk of Hope this year in memory and honor my wife and to also hopefully bring more awareness of this disease and the symptoms to others.

Too many women are dying from this. We need to do something different. Earlier detection is what we need to work on. I could not even get a MRI as it was overridden by the radiologist twice. I am still living with the time bomb. There are big problems with our OHIP as you should be able to get an MRI just like xrays. We have lots of money and more MRI machines should be in every facility. We the people should come before army, bonus to Bombardier, G20s etc

Ovarian cancer has done a great work and hope the Government will help them by allowing the new treatments to be approved and be available to all the ladies who are affected by this silent killer.

On October 4 in the early hours of the day, my friend, lover, confident, wife passed away at the early age of 50 years old. She will be missed by all family and friends who had the privilege who had the opportunity to meet a great person.
