This old vintage banjo needed a new skin... here’s how that goes after a good cold soak!

TBT - This was a project that I did for Randy Bachman back in 2006. The original guitar was a Hoyer Special Model that was in pretty rough shape so we decided spruce it up and make it into a Hoyer Special SL Model, and then paint it black. Making and installing the binding was a fun challenge, nevermind the side binding and the pearloid ring around the top that was a feature on the SL model. I even got a replica decal made for the top in gold. It turned out pretty cool in the end.

Re-fitting a neck on a 1953 Martin 00-17. Someone had previously re-fit the neck with too great an angle and they also used way too much glue! Lots of clean up in there...

Hopefully this doesn’t apply to me....I like my face! This 1965 Fender P Bass is here for some TLC. New frets, a new bone nut, a set up, and 4 new strings.

When I was imaging my new Black Gold model the v-joint was always part of it, but I didn’t consider the volute until much further along in the process. I’m glad I did. I think it’s kinda sexy, amirite?!? The Waverley’s don’t hurt either! Come check this out at Vancouver International Guitar Festival this weekend, there are going to be lots of amazing guitars!

If you’ve been wondering what I’ve been up to for the last couple weeks, here is your first sneak peak. I’ve been working on an acoustic model that I’m calling Black Gold. I wasn’t sure if this prototype would be ready to show at the Vancouver International Guitar Festival this weekend, but it looks like I’m going to make it! Come check it out in real life.

This old Gibson B-25 was brought in by its original owner, ready for an overhaul and a bridge upgrade. I usually like to keep everything original, but I don’t feel bad about replacing this plastic bridge with a new handmade rosewood bridge with an intonated bone saddle. This guitar also got a new bone but, a refret, and a neck reset. It should be good for a while now!
