NahlaniDance is a Calgary-based Polynesian Dance Company. We are the only group in Calgary, and Alberta, to perform with musicians trained in Hawaii! Nahlani has been performing since her start in 2006 and has performed at a variety of events around Calgary and Southern Alberta, including private parties and corporate events.
Nahlani started dancing in Lethbridge, Alberta, with belly dance and Hula, before making a full-time commitment to Hula. She also has experience in ballet, jazz, burlesque and Bollywood dance styles. She has studied under many well-known Kumu from Hawaii such as: Kumu Kea from Oahu; Kumu Moanalani Beamer, Kumu Robin Knuebhel, and Kumu Uluwehi Guerrero, all from Maui; and Kumu Hope Keawe from Hawaii island. Nahlani was blessed with her Hawaiian name by Uncle Richard Ho’opi’i, when he performed live at Bignote Music on August 9, 2012, where Nahlani had the honour of dancing for him.
Nahlani was recently selected by the University of Calgary, School of Creative and Performing Arts, to choreographer a routine for Dance Montage 2016.
The troupe is very much sought after for volunteer appreciation events, performing and entertaining for a variety of clients such as; the annual Leukemia and Lymphoma Society Pineapple Challenge; the Kerby Centre volunteer appreciation event, local dance studios’ student showcase nights, and other fundraising events across Calgary. The troupe also performed at a variety of summer street festivals in 2015. Maybe you've seen us at Marda Gras, Inglewood SunFest, and 4th Street Lilac Fest. We were also at GlobalFest, August 2015.
Nahlani herself has also had the honour of performing at the world famous Germaine’s Luau in Oahu, Hawaii, August 2007; and at the Courtyard by Marriott on Kauai, February 2014, 2015, 2016 and 2017.
