Discover the largest organic garden on the roof of a grocery store in Canada. It is located on the roof of IGA extra Duchemin family in Ville Saint-Laurent. It is one of the 150 IGA grocery stores designed by NEUF architect(e)s.
The green roof was done in collaboration with Alvéole and La Ligne Verte.

Roger G. Desmarais (1934-2018) B. A&S, University of Ottawa, M. Arch., McGill University, OAQ, FRAIC, AAPPQ, OAA
It is with great sadness that we inform you of the death of the founder of our firm, Roger Desmarais. He was a man of vision and a humanist. His entrepreneurial spirit and inspiring leadership allowed him to take the firm he founded in 1971 with his friend and partner, Edgar Tornay, and develop it into one of the leading architectural firms in Canada.
For forty years he perfected an architectural business model which precisely met the needs of a wide range of clients and project types in a harmonious, stable and prosperous environment.
He had many interests and read extensively on subjects such as astronomy, physics and biology and he applied many of the principles he discovered to the management and structure of the firm.
He was a warm, generous, and friendly person. He believed in the power of teamwork and always made sure that the people that surrounded him were happy and fulfilled. He encouraged and mentored so many young architects that acknowledge a debt of gratitude towards him. He always liked to say that there was no ceiling at our firm. One could rise to the level they aspired to by applying themselves with diligence and hard work.
NEUF architect(e)s inherited and embraced the principles Roger Desmarais taught so well that among others included active listening, creating bonds that go beyond business, and having a positive can-do attitude. Our success today is due in large part to the application and evolution of these principles that are now part of our DNA.
We offer our deepest sympathies to his family and friends. Roger touched so many people with his intelligence, humour, and charisma. At NEUF architect(e)s we sense his wisdom every day as we practice our profession and carry on the trailblazing tradition he began almost fifty years ago.

NEUF named Finalist in the World Architecture Festival (WAF) for a third year in a row!
Our 101 Yorkville project, out of our newly-opened Toronto office, has been named a Finalist at the WAF (World Architecture Festival) in the category Future Project – Commercial Mixed Use. The project will be presented in front of an international jury this fall in Amsterdam.
The Mews is a future retail building located in the Yorkville area of Toronto. The proposed intervention will restore a lost mid-block connection, expanding on the existing network of Victoria-era pedestrian laneways. The project diagonal is the natural urban response to reviving the lost fabric by providing a publicly accessible, commercially charged, open to the sky connection. Offering space for diversified uses, the mews offers a “democratic” passage with commercial units on two sides. Animated through three “urban rooms” – forecourt, passage and courtyard – the design focuses on a community-centered retail strategy.

Lilia Koleva recognized by McGill University in Toronto
Today, Lilia Koleva was honoured at the McGill Toronto Excellence Awards along with four other alumni members. She received the Rising Star Award which celebrates early success and future leadership.
“Only seven years after graduating from McGill’s MArch program, Lilia is already an accomplished architect working at the Canadian architecture firm, NEUF architect(e)s. She has completed a number of challenging projects, including the new CHUM (Centre hospitalier de l'Université de Montréal) hospital in downtown Montreal, for which she was a project and design lead. During the completion of the CHUM, Lilia developed the Toronto market for her firm.”
The Awards of Excellence celebrate the success and contribution of McGill University graduates working in the Greater Toronto Area. Only five such awards are given every year.

Sheraton Hotel in Saint-Hyacinthe is now open!
Last week the Sheraton Hotel, adjacent to the Saint-Hyacinthe Convention Center, hosted its first visitors. While the congress center was delivered last November, it took a few more months to see the hotel annex open.
These two buildings, connected by a large foyer, were designed by NEUF architect(e)s + KANVA. This large and continuous open space allows for easy circulation between the hotel and the gathering areas. The main technical challenge of this project was the large continuous ceiling with many complex angled planes extending from the exterior to the interior.
The Saint-Hyacinthe Convention Center is the largest convention center outside Montreal and Quebec City. With the four-star Sheraton hotel and more than 200 rooms, it is a destination of choice for major events.
