Just to confirm for actors submitting for “The Bitterest Time” — strong vocal ability does not refer to singing voice, but “actor voice” and vocal support. The character of Mona does sing to herself throughout the play, and as she was a broadway performer we are asking to hear a short acapella “ditty” from women submitting for this role only. Thanks all!

We’re closing the Eastern Front Theatre’s Stages Festival tomorrow night with our final reading of “In the Shadows” at 7:30 in the Neptune Theatre studio! We’re thrilled to have Andrea Lee Norwood back home to be part of our final reading of playing the incomparable Dot!

A Dartmouth native who recently moved to Toronto, Andrea is a queer-identified actor who loves all things creepy, ghosty, mysterious, and scary. This makes "In the Shadows" a perfect fit! She has been watching the progress of this play since its inception, and is delighted to be back in town in time to contribute to its development. You can catch Andrea in the Annapolis Valley this summer, where she is part of Two Planks and a Passion's 2018 season. Thanks to Jake for bringing our love of horror and theatre together!

We're trilled to have LunaSea favourite, Keelin Jack on board for our Stages reading of Jake Willett's "In the Shadows"!

Keelin Jack is a Nova Scotian theatre artist, who is expanding her ability to survive as such through diversifying and developing her skill set. She is currently working on her first full length play, EVE, through the Bus Stop Theatre Playwrights’ Unit, and her recent CFAT Media Scholarship Program short film, Wintering, will screen at HIFF in June.

In the Shadows is a Lovecraftian, feminist, horror story set in Nova Scotia in 1920. In the play, the Great War has ended, and Halifax is still recovering from the Explosion of 1917. Dottie Inglis is a librarian and closeted lesbian who stills talks to her long-dead grandmother. Widow Mamie Spares is an old school friend and secret crush who shows up in her office looking for help. The women, both in their 30s, are educated and privileged for their time. Mamie has inherited s...ome strange property in the Rawdon hills, and asks her old friend to accompany her out into the country to inspect the properties. This play is about women dealing with problems by themselves, for themselves. Dot and Mamie face many challenges; physical, mental and emotional, and come through intact on the other side because of their own strength, and that of their friendship. They show courage, humour and hope despite the dark world of ignorance and chauvinism surrounding them.
