An open and welcoming monthly discussion group exploring topics around polyamory, open relationships, and other non-monogamous relationship dynamics.

Open to all genders, sexual orientations, and relationship statuses. A safe space where confidentiality is maintained and openness is welcomed.

January Topic: Kinky Krossovers – There seems to be a lot of overlap between the polyam and BDSM communities. Why is that? You don’t need to be a well-versed kinkster to participate in this conversation; take this as an opportunity to learn from and/or inform other polyam-folk about the wide world of kink and how it integrates into many polyam relationships.

Please note that RSVPs are not required, and that joining this Facebook event may appear on your timeline, depending on privacy settings.

Content Warning: This post is about updates to white noise and contains discussion around a reformatting of the group.

    white noise Update:

white noise will be on hiatus while we build some more structure, consultation, and anchoring into the mandate. The plan is to build a more robust container to hold and move white emotions into action. Action meaning; coming to a healthy and functioning sense of a white racial identity. This includes getting further to the root of feelings and fragility through therapy tools, examining relevant historical conditionings, and trauma informed emotional work. “One of the functions and privileges of racism is that white people don't, as a whole, carry race as an identity -- we get to be individual, we get to be "our self," we get to be the norm, we get to be whole and not partial or hyphenated. We do not have to make "adjustments" or "modifications" to know or name ourselves. I also think my discomfort [with the term anti-racist] is fueled by it being based on what I am not. It is the proverbial "I'm not a racist" disclaimer used by whites to separate from the realities of racism and race-based privilege.”

    Next steps include;

-More training, inner work, and collective “figuring it out” for the facilitators, to aid in the journey beyond self reflexivity, in terms of where white noise needs to step back and out and where white noise needs to step up. This includes internally asking what white noise needs to do to strengthen the relationship with QTBIPOC communities in Ottawa. And what concrete, specific things white noise can do in it’s sphere of influence.

-A survey for past attendees to examine the effectiveness of white noises’ structure. Have the meetings been a helpful tool? What has been useful? What hasn't?

-A survey for greater Ottawa communities to examine in which capacities white noise should or should not continue to exist; how can meetings do better and what needs to change?

-The assembling of a board of People who are Queer, Trans, Black, Indigenous, and racialized to anchor the meetings and give feedback/ direction where necessary.

We (Bea and Sloane, group facilitators) wholeheartedly invite offerings in terms tools, resources, advice, direction etc. We are both available for answering messages, meetings, hangouts, phone calls, Skypes, errand trips etc to hear these offerings. You can email: Whitenoiseottawa@gmail.com

All Bodies are Good Bodies! Forever! This is our fifth trans positive, fat positive, Every Body swim. It's a free event for anybody who does not feel comfortable at the pool for any reason.

Kids are welcome. Toys, bubbles, ropes and towers are all available to use.

The paratranspo stop #2. If you incur any disability related costs (for example, attendants, transportation) we can reimburse you.

There is a moderately sized, accessible gender neutral locker room on the second floor and two gendered locker rooms. We provide buddies if you would like someone to accompany you to the locker room of your choice. The life guards have offered their room as well for extra privacy or another place to safely store your stuff.

There is a paid parking lot at the back of the pool. If you bring your receipt we can reimburse you for the cost of parking.

If there is interest, we can organize a car pool from Kind Space.

Dress in whatever swimwear makes you feel the happiest and most comfortable. Board Shorts, clean t-shirts, Bikini, sparkly rainbow one piece, clean sportswear (that wont weigh you down), binders, whatever you like. This includes topless swimming for trans guys. Yes you can, and you'll look fabulous doing it. No one but us, and the lovely lifeguards, will have access to the pool area.

Remember to bring towels, a lock, and goggles if you need them. We can provide towels and goggles with advance notice.

We'll meet you in the lobby. The layout is confusing if it's your first time.

I'm continually impressed by the Kind Space organization and loved collaborating for PRIDE 2018 to host an Authentic Relating Games Night. The people who attended were open, kind, caring, and had a great sense of humour. I have a lot of respect for the Executive Director who has a very generous heart and would recommend speaking with her directly for any future collaborations.

Your own facilitators contributed to damaging my mental health through bullying and harassment with abuse of their power. Yet despite me saying so over and over I feel unsafe in the Ottawa queer community. Thanks to the negligence of your organization.
