I recognize the market is full on flavor of the day, latest/greatest/hottest book. I can't fight that and as a part time re-seller I have to follow the trends if I want to remain relevant. I'm no fan of slabbed books either but again, I have to stock what the clientele wants. There's no doubt though that I'm an old school collector. I love to rummage in long boxes, hunting. I never even know what I'm hunting for, I'm just looking and paying attention. Take for example the 3 long boxes we just got. Deemed "crap" and "junk" comprised mostly of 80's indie publishers. 10 For A Buck right? False. The boxes are loaded with the first/early published works of some of today's most popular artists. So far I've found VERY early Adam Hughes, Kelley Jones, Paul Pelletier, Phil Hester works - and that's in just the first half of the first box. No one is going to retire on the sale of those books, but true collectors will value the history within those covers.

We just acquired a small collection, 3 boxes of comics we're going to price at 10 for 1$! There is also 2 boxes of magazines, OGN and fanzines we'll have priced for both October shows - the Capital Comic Book Convention Fall 2018 and the Capital Trade Shows

I cannot emphasize enough the importance & value of supporting your local comic book shop. I promise you, if you look after them, they WILL look after you. Case in point: the guys over at Myths, Legends & Heroes got in a neat collection today, I was alerted to the possibility it may have Dave Stevens product, as well as British publications. No Stevens but some Judge Dredd stuff I'd been wanting - this doesn't happen everywhere, it happens where both sides take the time to build relationships.

Another Capital Trade Shows in the books. Not our best show, not our worst - financially - but as always it was a great social event. These monthly shows have become something I've grown to look forward to, if only to get to visit with Big Belly Comics, Nick, Lorenzo, Comic Detective, Mike and Zachary Quevillon. I did a little old school trading as well; books exchanged for collecting rather than financial reasons. On top of that, I was gifted a bucket list book I've wanted since high school - totally unexpected and unnecessary but so appreciated. My thanks to David, Laura and Kathleen for helping out yesterday while Kin was out of town. I literally could not have done it without your help.

Working through a small box of new product. We also just committed to buying a small collection tomorrow which includes a run of East of West (TV show coming), Ms Marvel, various Venom minis and issues of The Dark Knight Returns (v.1). Everything will be ready for Sunday.

In support of a number of local vendors, we'll be heading to FanExpo next week. We'll be using this as an opportunity to do some buying in preparation for Capital Trade Shows September event. A reminder that this Sunday’s Capital Trade Shows will be our last to have 10 For 5. As well most of the veteran dealers will be attending combined with some new ones. There will be a great representation of sport cards, comic books and non sports cards plus other collectibles.Come and check out new comic dealer Joseph Manalil from Montreal. Joseph will be bringing comic books, t shirts badges tote bags and hoodies. You will find information about his products at; www.citizen-canada.ca or facebook.com/citizen.canada.
Another neat feature for Sunday’s show will be new dealer Trebla Merchandising who will be set up to sell a variety of console video games and systems including;
- Xbox, Xbox 360, Xbox One - PS1, PS2, PS3, PS4, - NES, SNES, N64, GameCube, Wii, Wii U - Sega, PSP, DS, Gameboy - Controllers and Accessories
There are plenty of established dealers including Scott Coates who will be coming in from Sherbrooke, QC as well as many other out of town dealers.The Durrell / Walkley arena is located at 1265 Walkley Road which is just east of the Bank / Walkley intersection. The room features superb lighting and plenty of free parking with a canteen service open all day.
