Came here last year during summer and the condition of the motel was horrendous. But this year new owners came in and I loved the new Reno's they have done with the place, looks fantastic!!!! Great owners.

The Highwood Motel is under New Ownership as of Sptember 01, 2017. We have worked really hard to update and clean this motel and work on the complaints that people have made in the past. We hope that you would give us a chance to show you all the changes that we have made to this motel.

Really run down. Bathroom door wouldn't shut. Fixtures were stained, walls were poorly patched with no pictures. It looks like they gave up. We tend to stay in cheap motels but this one was by far the shabbiest. We won't be back.

Manager and family were incredibly friendly. Room was as clean as possible with how old it is. Was in a pet friendly room so couch and curtain had some rips. Bed was comfortable. WiFi was good. Microwave in room was nice to have.

NIGHTMARE LITERALLY
I honestly don't know where to even start. I was told one price on the phone of $99 which included everything and when I arrived to check in the owner tried to charged $150. He eventually came down a whole 10 bucks. The owner had a terrible attitude. After being insulted, talked down to, practically having to beg for 2 keys of which I was told "DON'T LOSE THEM!" and lastly told to keep my 2 tiny dogs for which I happily paid the $45 dog fee off of the couch and bed I was ready to go to another hotel AND I WISH I HAD!
The room we were given was absolutely disgusting!! I have over 17 photos of the room. The bath towels were damp, stained and filthy. The tub was full of black hair about 15 strands or so, mold on the tiles to the ceiling, smoke burns in the lino and carpet, the faucet was also filthy so FORGET ABOUT having a bath or shower. The toilet was stained including a thick black ring in the bowl. Behind the toilet seat was covered in feces, dirt, hair and corroded metal. And it only gets WORSE. The sheets had old BLOOD STAINS as well as fresh BLOOD marks EVERYWHERE. Never in all of my travels have I ever seen anything so dirty and disgusting. Needless to say we ended up getting no sleep due to attempting to sleep without any bedding or bed for that matter, on the just as filthy couch. There were holes in all of the walls, electrical sockets were missing their covers, looked like a legit fire hazard, pillows what pillows, the coffee maker was dirty and hadn't been cleaned, the coffee cups were dirty and stained, our neighbours that night partied until 5am, RED ANTS (the kind that bite) running in the carpets, ALL FOR THE PRICE OF $140!! And to be told to keep my dogs off of the bed and the couch!
I tried to track the owner down to get him to come see the room but he couldn't be found so we were stuck.
I don't know what has happened to the Highwood. Yes it's dated but at least it used to be kept very clean and we always enjoyed our stays there over the years. I'm still shocked that anyone with a business would or could rent a room like that out or that'd it'd even be legal to do so.
As soon as we checked out I ended up taking the first shower I could get, washing all of our clothing immediately including giving our dogs a bath as obviously we all felt as filthy as the room was. I will be posting the photos of the bloody bedding and of everything else on other websites.
It seriously saddens me to have to write this review about our stay and the "new managements" total lack of even basic good business ethics nevermind the actual horror of the room itself.
KEEP ON DRIVING past this motel either to the newer one a few blocks up or to Colman which are ironically cheaper and 100% updated.response / report this review -

I had a business trip and was staying there for 1 night. It was a non smoking room with queen size bed, very clean, quite and good view. They have pizza place inside of building with delivery. I would recommend this place.

We were stuck in the Crowsnest pass when the big snow storm of 2017 hit and the pass was closed for 2 days. The room was clean, but was nothing special. When we found out the pass was to be closed for the second night, we went to rent it again and the rate went from $78 taxes included to $109. I will never stay here again, this hotel took advantage of people when they needed help, when other people in the pass were opening up their homes for people stranded. I will tell anyone about our experience with them. Never again.

Motel is older and could use some upgrades. However if you just need a llace ro stay, cant beat the price. Friendly owners.
