Description

Inspired by the Harlem Renaissance of the 1920s, Harlem celebrates the joy of Toronto’s cultural diversity and the art of entertaining. It is a rebirth of creativity in Food, Art, Music, and Cocktails.

A unique culinary tribute to to Afro-American/Afro-Caribbean culture does double duty — food and music — and more, with regular live tunes, art exhibitions, film- and media-event hosting. In a contemporary ballroom-styled space that's reminiscent of another era, Harlem jumps with soul, jazz, Motown, pop, blues, R&B and funk performances.

It's been a decade since we opened our Doors at 67 Richmond St East.

Harlem the restaurant came to be, in one of the most optimistic times in the history of North America, it tapped the massive creative Talent of this city and defined a generation. Join us for an entire weekend of revelry as we say goodbye to this Titan on the lower east side. Our west side location the Harlem Underground will continue to do what we do.

Harlem Renaissance Figures : New Orleans native Louis Armstrong moved to New York City in 1924, where he played the clubs on Broadway, helping to spread the sound of jazz to a larger audience.

Louis Armstrong was arguably the greatest artist of the 20th century. He was also one of its greatest eaters.

The man behind "Struttin' With Some Barbecue" so often had grub on his mind that he often worked it into his song lyrics, and occasionally signed his letters "Soul Foodly Yours." More often, the signoff was "Red Beans & Ricely Yours," after his favorite food.
