Quebec elections, October 1, 2018
At the last general election held in Quebec, seven out of 10 people aged 25-34 exercised their right to vote. But 30% of those entitled to vote who did not go and vote said they did not have time.

Four hours’ leave on election day
You should know that the Election Act provides that any employer has to ensure that you have sufficient time to go and vote on polling day. So, on October 1, 2018, you will have four consecutive hours to go and vote during polling hours, between 09:30 am and 8:00 pm, excluding the time normally allotted for meals. Furthermore, the establishment may not take reprisals, or make deductions from your salary or leave banks provided for in the Collective Agreement because you voted.
For instance, if you normally work between 9:00 am and 5:00 pm, the establishment will have to release you by 4:00 pm so you can go and vote, whereas if you have scheduled call duty following your regular work day until 8:00 pm, the establishment should, for example, release you until 1:30 pm. But it is up to the establishment to determine when during the day the leave is granted.

Right to vote
To be entitled to vote, you must meet the following five conditions:
• Have your name entered on the list of electors, at the address of your domicile; • Be 18 years of age or older on October 1, 2018; • Be a Canadian citizen; • Have been domiciled in Quebec since April 1, 2018; • Not be under curatorship or have lost your election rights.
When voting, you must also have in hand an accepted piece of identification.

The FMRQ’s Quebec Career Day is a yearly event that provides medical residents with a chance to meet numerous representatives of Quebec healthcare establishments. Grant program for research projects on postgraduate medical education
The FMRQ offers research grants to medical residents wishing to carry out research projects in connection with postgraduate medical education. The maximum grant per project is $ 10,000. This grant however cannot be used as a salary for the medical resident, who, while supervised by a teaching physician, must be the principal investigator on the project. The deadline for submitting a project is November 1, 2018. Projects submitted by that date will be analysed by an independent Scientific Committee. Comments and final decision will be forwarded to applicants.
