Hey everyone! This week you can expect some updates which you may have already received if you were at church on Sunday. Our fall calendar will be up soon- for now, mark your calendars for THURSDAY SEPTEMBER 20th for our kick off event.
There will also be a student/young adult meet-up afterward at 8pm in the Green Bean

Thank you to all those who helped make stencils, paint, clean, tape, pick up garbage, help kids and by doing any other number of odd jobs as we continued in our partnership with Our West End to bring renewal to an alleyway right on our doorstep! Excited to see where this leads.

Come out this Thursday and help University Community Church and Our West End Neighbourhood Renewal re-paint, clean-up, and welcome positive change in the River-West community! We will be painting words of welcome in many languages along the Wyandotte/Partington Alleyway. (Meet on-site if you know where you are going, otherwise groups will be walking over from UCC at both 5:30PM and 6:30PM. Snacks will be provided.)
BUT WHY? Imagine the following: An alley covered in graffiti. There is garbage on the ground. In the evening it's dark, with a lack of lighting. It could be a shortcut through the neighbourhood but pedestrians avoid it. Business owners have their back entrances tagged, or garbage dumped outside their establishments.
BUT WHAT IF IT COULD BE DIFFERENT?
What if instead we leaned into making changes one at a time to move towards a vibrant place, that felt safe, and helped the flow of foot-traffic move through it's own space? How would we start? Vandalism is less likely in places that look cared for, littering is less likely in spaces that are maintained. A maintained and cared for space makes people feel safer. Greater improvements, such as lighting, are more likely in places that the community uses. We begin by repainting the walls, removing the tags, and painting art that welcomes community in!

How well are famous Christian leaders identifiable as Christ-following in the way that they speak about themselves, politics, poverty, justice, the world, etc.? Come enjoy a Game-Show style night and conversation around being a spiritual leader in the eye of society- and what we can learn from that. Our potluck theme is Fiesta foods; Guacamole? Nachos? Enchiladas? Quesadillas? Flaming Cheese? Tacos? Taco Salad? Our best take on a Fiesta is gaurenteed to be tasty, if not authentic.

Just a reminder that tonight is our Bible, Gender, Sexuality book study with Caroline Schleier Cutler and Jenny Mac, for those of you who have registered and followed along with that. We will be discussing Chapter 4. If you aren’t a part of this have a nice night off and we will see you next week for our Mural Painting!

Thank you everyone for your patience! We will have the Break Out Pod locations/groups posted shortly, along with our schedule through the month of June. This will be both posted here and emailed out. Looking forward to tomorrow night!! Let’s also keep in mind our brothers and sisters headed up to Generous Space tomorrow, and be praying for their time, experience, the speakers/facilitators and travel safety.

UPDATE FOR TOMORROW
Our pals at Our West End have decided that it’s too risky to paint tomorrow with rain in the forecast for this weekend. We are now planning on painting THURSDAY JUNE 7TH, but that means we have no regular programming for tomorrow.
So tomorrow come on out at 6:30 and we will be doing a little bit of a mish-mash of gardening, tidying and playing board games. Have a favorite game? Bring it with you! I need to try something new and my sense is we may have a few competitive game players in our midst. (I’m looking at you Erin McAllister and Caroline Schleier Cutler)

Tonight we are going to engage in Pentecost, reflecting on the breath of God and asking ourselves where we need a new breath of life. I’m looking forward to seeing you at 6:30 at 1556 Glendale Ave. If you want to get a step ahead of the game reflect on this: What do you think ‘Pentecost’ means?
On tap for tonight: Holy Spirit, holy first church, holy breath of God, and the holy weirdness of relationship. (That last point is a little bit a default of us just being together)

Trivia? Fancy grilled sammies? A group of some pretty cool people? YES THAT'S RIGHT, IT'S FAM-HUBS TRIVIA NIGHT THIS THURSDAY.
Our potluck portion is going to be themed as a grilled sandwich night. We are going to have several griddles going and will make made-to-order sandwiches out of the various ingredients you guys will be bringing, so for the potluck component of the night we are asking that you each choose to bring one thing from each category (so two things total)!
CATEGORY ONE: Bread and Cheese This one is pretty easy. Choose either a nice loaf of bread, OR a favourite cheese. Cheddar? Mozzarella? Brie? Or perhaps a multigrain? Rye? Sour Dough? Bring one or the other!
CATEGORY TWO: Meat, Spread, Veggie, Filler This is your chance to be creative! What else would be tasty in a grilled sandwich- prosciutto, bacon, salami, avocado, tomato, eggs, carmelized onions, fancy mayo.. some ideas for you!
Bring your two grilled sandwich items and your trivia face and we will see you at 6:30PM!

Good Morning, Fam-Hubs! Come on out tonight as we work with Our West End Neighbourhood Renewal on making stencils for the alley mural we will help paint at Partington and Wyandotte, and to hear more about what they do in our neighbourhood. 6:30PM at UCC- and with classes ending for exams we should have more close parking available, too!

A garden space is a place God meets us- where God walked with humankind. Jesus was mistaken for the gardener after resurrection, and each year gardens go through cycles of death and resurrection themselves- calling to the oldest story of death and life embracing as new things are done as God breathes. Tonight we reflect on GARDEN SPACE at 1556 Glendale Ave., 6:30PM.

Hey there Family Hub- going into the end of the school semester students are at the end of their meal plans and more stressed and busy than usual- and we are a little short in our food pantry! If when you are shopping this week you could maybe grab an extra couple items for our neighbourhood students and bring it Thursday to our night on Garden-Space; that would be very appreciated!
