Elders are history and knowledge keepers and their prospective of life and health. Here's a sneak peek at one of the projects students can work on through the #MushGuardians initiative! #CreeGeo was in Attawapiskat for GIS Day on Wednesday, November 14th where we spent some time with Gr. 10-11 students at Vezina Secondary School. This group braved the frigid temperatures and collected data about the types of garbage found outside (and where)! They used Esri's Survey123 mobile app to classify items as recyclable, waste or organic, recorded the location of the garbage, and captured images as well. Not to mention they helped clean up areas of the community! They later drew some conclusions about where garbage was concentrated, talked about some solutions, and saw how a couple types of analyses could be done using ArcGIS Online. Thank you for all of your hard work and perseverance in caring for the land/water!
