Root Wisdom Wednesday 🌱 As fall takes hold, you may be noticing needles and foliage on evergreens turning yellow or brown and dropping. Not to worry!! This process is natural needle drop or flagging, and it is an integral part of the plants’ life cycle🍃 Especially noticeable on pines and cedars, up to a third or more of older growth and needles may be shed at this time of year. Seasonal and environmental factors play a role in the severity of the drop, and flagging may also be affected by the amount of pruning that was done in the growing season. Root Wisdom Wednesday🌱 This is the time of year when Ornamental Grasses take centre stage! Beautiful foliage and plumes that sway in the fall breeze; so hard to pick a favourite from all of the varieties that we offer!! Many are drought tolerant once established, thriving in the hot sun. It’s hard to think about winter with the temperatures we’re experiencing, but grasses offer incredible winter interest. Root Wisdom🌱 Looking for small, compact and plentiful hydrangea? Bobo Hydrangea is definitely one of our favourites! Grows to 3’ by 3’ and can be pruned to be kept smaller if desired. Panicles of white blooms begin in summer fading to pink as the season progresses. Love how its fall colour is complementary to the pavers used in this landscape!
