The new business model carried by CDPQ infra for the Réseau express métropolitain - REM project (investor, prime contractor and operator) is a source of inspiration abroad. Several similar infrastructure projects are being discussed in Canada, but also in the United States and New Zealand.

The interest in our model is being felt elsewhere in the world. A light train project in New Zealand (http://bit.ly/lightrailNZ) is a good example: CDPQ Infra has been identified as a potential partner http://bit.ly/NZsuperfund 🌏🚈

Did you know that Ville de Brossard is planning a new Highway 10 overpass? Located near the future REM Du Quartier station, the overpass will include a sidewalk and a bicycle path, allowing REM users to get to the Quartier DIX-30 more easily.

Rich in history, the Ville-Marie Borough has often been at the heart of the great changes in the city. Two REM stations will be located in this borough. Can you name them?

[FAQ REM] - Several citizens asked us the following question: will ice and snow affect the REM once in service?

Weather conditions represent an important challenge for a train or light rail operator. As part of the project, we have ensured that the consortium responsible for rolling stock is particularly sensitive to this aspect. For a example, a winter intervention plan will be required from the consortium.

The REM’s high frequency (that varies from 2.5 to 15 minutes) means closely monitoring operations at all times to quickly identify any problems. The high frequency is also meant to ensure regular trips to prevent snow and ice from accumulating (the same principle as a highway). One of the advantages of an automated system such as the REM is the possibility of letting it operate all night, if needed, during exceptionally icy or snowy conditions, to prevent accumulation on the track and catenary. For snow removal, specialized equipment will be used, and a ground team will be dedicated to keep the system operating.

The issue of winter conditions is important and we address this issue as part of the call for tender process, to identify solutions to deal with it.

The REM: a metro? Distinct from the commuter trains by its high frequency and its smaller cars, the REM will also run on dedicated tracks. Its urban integration is also different form that of the Montréal metro and commuter trains, with a ground, underground and overhead route. Here are pictures of other light rail around the world. Have you ever taken them?

Did you know that all REM stations will be equipped with elevators? In order to respect universal access principles, theelevators will be pass through, i.e. a person in a wheelchair or with a stroller will not need to return to get out of the elevator. Located near stairways, these elevators will be recognizable from a distance and glass-enclosed for maximum safety.

What happened in 2017 for the REM? Here is the top 5 highlights, according to our team: - Confirmation of the financial commitments of the provincial and federal governments. - Agreement with Jour de la terre related to the planting of 250,000 trees to offset the greenhouse gases emitted during the construction phase. - Agreement in principle with the Union des producteurs agricoles and the Communauté métropolitaine de Montréal related to the enhancement of agricultural lands. - “REM and You” tour which led to meetings with 13,000 users in metro and train stations during the summer of 2017. - Passage of Bill 137 and environmental decrees.

Did you know that the Bois-de-Liesse nature park offers cross-country skiing and snowshoeing trails, and a multitude of activities? In a few years you will be able to get there with the REM, which will pass every 15 minutes on weekends at Sunnybrooke Station, at just a few minutes walk from the park. Other good news: the station will be closed and temperate, perfect to warm up ❄️ http://bit.ly/1Tqd5ix
