I rented a full sized car and received a monster SUV (Yukon Denali). Given that I was driving a long distance, the car provided was perfect (although really expensive in the cost of gas). An excellent rental experience.

My first and only option in Vancouver where to rent a car in the past five years! The staff is professional and very nice, it’s always a pleasure to go there. I rented there many times, both for the weekend or for longer periods of time (one month) and they were always very accommodating to my needs. Never had a problem, even when I had an accident (not my fault) or needed to extend the reservation during the trip. Recommended!

After reading some of the negative reviews left recently about the Avis Hornby Street branch, we were anxious about picking up our pre paid hire car.
However , we arrived early but within 1/2 hour we were sitting in the car ready to go.
The staff on the desk processed the paperwork promptly and professionally. There were a couple of questions asking if we'd like extra insurance etc. But nothing like the 'hard sell' that others had experienced. All in all a good experience from start to finish.response / report this review -

Pick-up of the car was extremely smooth, appreciated the "one-way" rental by picking up in the city centre and returning at the airport. Also, the car was comfortable, modern and had a small roof-window that could be opened which was excellent for wild animal spotting. It has been my best rental experience yet.

We had a wonderful experience renting from this AVIS location. Martha who helped us on the day of our pickup was very informative and a delight to talk to. She gave us some great recommendations to go for our long weekend trip. Our car was very clean and the pick-up process was very quick and smooth. Would rent again from this location!

Some of the best customer service I've experienced recently in Vancouver. The whole staff work really well together it seems and they are fast, friendly, and effective. Pickup was smooth, my car was clean and worked great, and drop off simple. Shout out to Martha who helped me with everything.

Just picked up a car from this particular Avis at Hornby. Coming from a country that is lacking in customer service, the guys at Avis were superb! Queues were long as expected as we picked up the car during the peak hour. There were some frustration with the return of cars as the returnees were not told that they could just drop off the key but the problem, I think was they were understaffed during the peak hour.
Other than that, a very positive experience for me. I even got a free upgrade to an SUV!response / report this review -

I had reserved a car here, and was concerned because I later saw all the 1-star reviews. My own experience was excellent: pickup was quick and efficient, the staff were straightforward and helpful. The car was in great condition. Dropoff was also painless. I left the car fairly clean and full of gas, and had no issues afterwards. The only complaint I might have is that the parking is 8 levels deep, which just takes a while to get to.
I hope this means that the management have been taking the negative reviews into account, because I was very happy with my experience here.response / report this review -

Fantastic service, I arrived late from the original pick up time just before they closed with no issues and the agent even upgraded my standard car to a SUV at no extra cost. I was in and out in less than 10 minutes. Same thing could be said upon the return of the vehicle, quick and easy, the agent even saved me 20$ in processing fees for the tolls I've incurred during my travels. Extremely satisfied with the service at AVIS on Hornby Street.
I recommend that future customers shop smart, prepay your reservations online to avoid extra costs that may come up and google discount codes beforehand. It's just common sense. After reading a bunch of reviews about this place, I can't believe someone was actually complaining that the rental vehicles were parked several levels underground. This is downtown Vancouver, where else would you expect a fleet of rental vehicles to be parked? If you have difficulty navigating a simple one direction underground parking lot, and it takes you more than five minutes to do so, I think you should stick to taxi and public transit, that or you purchase the extra insurance on top of your rental because you obviously lack the experience in operating a motor vehicle.response / report this review -

Very fast efficient service. Everyone behind the desk was friendly, helpful and polite. We had prebooked and they had our rental details accurately recorded even though we had changed our arrangements and it was not a straightforward rental. Nice car too. Would not hesitate to rent from here again.

23Apr2017. Avis on Hornby. I was in a hurry as people so often are and the front desk staff were amazing. I was in the door and driving out of the parking lot in less than 10min. The front desk staff helpful and friendly. Took the car up to Kamloops and back without any concern. Car performed very well. And then on Sunday morning I was able to drop off the car, walk upstairs have a breakfast and then participate in the Vancouver SunRun. A great weekend provided by the professionals at the Avis Car Rental Company. Many thanks. -Wade

Do you want terrible customer service while condescending people who make $16 an hour look down at you? This is the car rental place for you if you enjoy renting cars with rude, arrogant people who couldn't care less if you lived or died

I rented a car from this location in the height of tourist season and was just amazed at how incredibly busy it was, and then just how efficiently the staff dealt with the clients. They were extremely professional and very friendly. We got a terrific car and an excellent price. No issues, no complaints, and nothing but compliments for this car rental location.
