Wow what an amazing trip! Belize was an absolutely fabulous place to visit. Barbara, the owner of the condo we rented at Sunset Beach Resort in Ambergris Caye, could not have described this truly relaxing place any better. The condo was perfect and had everything you could need, and if it wasn't there, Juan Carlo found it for you! A wonderful staff, who was so patient and answered every question we had, they were always available and never made you feel like you were imposing. The grounds were taken care of meticulously and everything was blooming! The sunrises were breath taking and we actually sat on the pier and watched gorgeous sunsets with a glass of wine! True peace and tranquility. The neighbors were fabulous and it was fun getting to hear why people were there, what they did that day and learn about them in such a relaxed atmosphere. We will be back again! The LaRoche's/The Dineen's
Beautiful Condo and great location! Really enjoyed our stay and the nearby tour company Suya tours. The three bedroom condo A6 was perfect for our family and the views were fantastic! Great, small quiet complex just a short golf cart away from the busy center. Barbara and Rosa were very helpful with any and all questions and concerns.
We have recently enjoyed a 6 night stay in C1 of Sunset Beach and it was awesome. Great location on Ambergris, way closer to San Pedro than we thought (15 minutes by golf cart), would go back in a second. Barbara and Rosa were super helpful in getting us sorted with booking the place and excursions, and Juan Carlos took good care of us once we were there. Looking forward to returning to make more great memories!
We went for our 20th wedding anniversary. The 6 days we spent there was amazing. It was off season, there was no one else around and it was beautiful. The condo was cozy and not overdone. We walked out our front door and in 30 seconds we were sunbathing with the iguanas! We are planning our return trip soon.
I visited Sunset Beach resort with my daughter & we just loved it. We were in Condo B2 which was beautifully done and has a fabulous view of the sea from the large balcony. It is a perfect place to sit and have morning coffee before your day's excursion & an evening drink after! Barbara provided great information prior to our arrival and the staff onsite were incredibly helpful from beginning to end (they will even cut open a coconut for you!). We are already planning a return with more of the family. Highly recommended!
We could find no peace and quiet in our unit or on the beach. We informed the rental agent Barbara Smalley and the "concierge" Rosa, who did nothing to move us or make it stop. A good property manager or resort would have handled this quickly to ensure all paying guests could enjoy their vacation. Not so here. if you have never been here you should know that there is a huge amount of seaweed in the water which washed up daily on the "beach". Few people ventured into the water as a result. If you want to go in the water, you would have to go on a dive or snorkel trip out past the seaweed. If you enjoy strolls up and down the beach on your vacation, this is not the place as you will have to walk by or through stinking piles of seaweed, garbage and other debris. Yuck. You must rent a golf cart to get around but be prepared for a bone jarring experience. Dirt or badly paved roads, combined with loud gas-powered golf carts (think go carts) and a chaotic, no rules driving environment combining cars, dogs, people and carts are not at all relaxing. I have been all over the Carribean and love the beaches and towns. Will never be back to Belize.
We had our 1st visit to Ambergris Caye on April 26th - May 3rd 2015. We flew AA, so of course there were problems getting to our honeymoon destination and we arrived a day later than scheduled. When researching and finding that perfect spot to take my new bride, I came across this place. Of course there are several options on the island, but dealing with Barbara was a real pleasure and she made it easy and economical. The condo (A3) was decorated very nicely and had a great view from the front porch across the pool and to the ocean. Upon arriving to the condo, we were met by Chapin who was sitting on the front step at the neighbor's house assembling new fans to put into one of the other units. He had the A/C turned down low and the door unlocked and ready for us to move in. Chapin is always around and gave good suggestions as for places to visit, eat and drink. The day after arrival, we met with Judy to get "officially" checked in. She was GREAT! My wife and I ended up going down to her house a little further south down the beach and had a few drinks with them on their patio getting even more suggestions and finding out local things to do. This place is an awesome place to visit and the wife and i are now looking to buy our own place there. We fell in love with the place and especially the people of Belize!!
Thank you to Barbara, Judy, Chapin and all the others we met on our week long stay! It made for a very special and memorable honeymoon!
My boyfriend and I spent a week in Belize (Caye Caulker and Ambergris Caye) and love, love, loved our time at Sunset Beach! We focused on scuba diving while on Caye Caulker. We had no trouble finding other things to do on Ambergris Caye- in fact, we could have easily spent more time “doing nothing” while we were at Sunset Beach!
The resort is just far enough from town (~2.5 miles) that it feels secluded and peaceful. Yet it’s close enough that it’s a cinch to get into town whenever desired. The taxi service that works with Sunset Beach is quite convenient and reliable. Next time—when we stay for more that just a few nights—we’ll probably rent a golf cart (for the added convenience and also because they look like a ton of fun!). We did take the resort’s complimentary bikes into town one afternoon. It was easy and fun.
There are so many activities to do on Ambergris Caye! Highlights include: snorkeling at the Hol Chan marine reserve, taking an evening tour with the American Crocodile Education Sanctuary, eating delicious food (enjoyed by both tourists and locals) at Caliente in San Pedro, and embarking on a day-long ATM cave tour on the Belize mainland (note: this was a very long but INCREDIBLE single-day journey).
We also loved that Sunset Beach was only a ~10 minute walk along the beach to the local “Island Time” beach bar. They provided the perfect low-key venue to kick-off our New Year’s Eve celebration before we hopped in a cab to check out the action in San Pedro. We also learned the following morning that “Island Time” has pretty delicious breakfast (note: portions are huge)!
Looking back, there were many amenities at Sunset Beach that we wish we could have stayed longer to enjoy! Next time we will be sure to: cook in the well-stocked kitchen, lounge in the ocean-front hammocks, and take the complimentary kayaks out for a paddle. We can’t wait until next time!
