Staying at the Great House, so a convenient place to eat. Dinner was on the pricey side, but the portions were nice and big. I had yuca crusted fish with a fresh fruit salsa (papaya, yum), with a side of veggies and a baked potato. The fish was cooked perfectly and crispy, the vegetables were obviously fresh (not frozen) and well seasoned. Baked potato was smallish, but good. Service was friendly and non-obtrusive (everything I needed). Cost for dinner was $24 USD. The restaurant itself is beautiful, partially outdoors under big trees, every American's tropical dream. No mosquitoes because they were burning a mosquito coil which was quite nice. Worth a try.
The food was sub par, but what was really frustrating was the fact that I ordered pretty much the same thing at lunch and dinner (coconut shrimp) and got the same portions, but paid twice as much for dinner as I did for lunch. Frozen key lime pie was just okay. The restaurant is outdoors (there is a covered area and umbrellas on the tables) and the mesquites were so bad for dinner that we were eaten alive. The staff is aloof, but not rude. We received our drinks, food, and check in a timely manner.
Great onion rings! Made from scratch! The pesto pasta was okey but the garlicbread that came with it was good. Good staff and cosy enviorment.
Way over priced for the quality of the food & serving sizes. Shrimp cocktail was $18 Belize dollars, 8 small previously cooked, frozen shrimp added shrimp to my pasta primavera, for another $20 Belize dollars, for a total of $38 for the pasta meal, again 8 of the same small previously cooked frozen shrimp no taste, a single piece of garlic bread, I'm pretty sure the sauce was jarred sauce. Nothing was fresh, except the garlic bread. Awful awful awful! Don't waste your time or $$. No one in our party of 7 was pleased with any part of their meals.
Absolutely horrible food and service. There are much better options in the neighborhood.
We trekked out to the Smoky Mermaid based on a recommendation, but it turned out to be a bad idea. The atmosphere is very nice, and the staff were pleasant. But the food was a HUGE disappointment. The seafood, all of it, was overcooked and underspiced, even the skewered shrimp, which the menu claims is "cooked to perfection." The rice was slightly crunchy, and the conch leathery. We ended up paying ca. $30 per person for some spectacularly lousy food. If you're looking for good eats outside the tourist zone, steer clear of the mermaid!
Great sushi bar
