Moonracer Farm is the perfect place to come "home" to after a day full of activities. We were originally going to stay in San Ignacio, but are so glad we took a chance on Moonracer! Marge and Tom were so incredibly kind and helpful, they really are the ultimate hosts. They were happy to offer advice and information regarding all of the tours we wanted to take, and sites that we wanted to visit. They really go above and beyond to ensure you are having the best experience possible.

I highly recommend having dinner on the farm. Marge's cooking was absolutely delicious, and some of the best food I ate on my trip. Everyone eats together, and it was great to chat with other travelers and exchange stories and experiences.

We chose to go on a tour led by Marge and Tom's employee Julio, and it was definitely one of our favorite activities. We were invited to Julio's home to enjoy a delicious lunch prepared by his wife Jeanette, followed by an afternoon of hiking, climbing, and exploring the impressive limestone formations located just on the edge of Julio's town. Julio is very knowledgeable about all of the local plants and their uses, as well as the history of the area. He took us into caves and canyons, and showed us ancient Mayan pottery that was still in the area.

Our casita was clean and cozy, and having our own sink and toilet was definitely a plus! The casita was tucked into the surrounding jungle, and waking up to the sounds of all of the local birds was really neat. There is no electricity located in the casitas, but you are provided with solar lanterns that provide more than enough light at night. It really wasn't an inconvenience at all.

I can't rave about Tom, Marge, and Moonracer Farm enough. It truly was a fantastic experience.

Best hosts ever! Marge and Tom are beyond helpful and caring, they make you feel like family. Awesome garden and nice kept jungle with basic casitas BUT very clean, high standard towels, REALLY hot water and always 10+ hummingbirds around. All sort of tours and/or help offered, if it's Caracol, Caves, Birding, Waterfalls, Hiking etc. - I had a blast.

We stayed in one of the 'Cohune Camping Casitas'. The room is small and basic, but clean and comfortable. It felt like sleeping on a screen porch. The room has screens all around, and curtains you can draw if you feel the need, but we left it open the entire time we were there. There's a toilet and sink in the room, but the shower is a short walk down a gravel path, and is shared with other visitors. There is a shared kitchen area next to the showers, but we did not use that at all, as Marge cooked all our meals except for one night when we went into San Agnacio to eat.
Marge arranged a couple of tours for us, and also gave us suggestions on things to do after we left Moonracer Farm. She did an excellent job at matching us up with trips that were appropriate for our fitness level and our interests, and we really enjoyed both tours that we took.
We chose to have our meals with Marge and Tom, and as others have stated, Marge is an excellent cook! Everything we had wash fresh and delicious, and after dinner at night we'd sit in the Palapa and chat. The whole experience was relaxing, interesting, and truly perfect. I can't think of a single thing that would have made our trip better. Our needs were anticipated, from drinking water to phone charging to maps. It is clear that Tom and Marge have been doing this for a long time and have learned what will make their guests' stay special.
As others have noted, this is likely not for everyone. The property is off-grid, on a dirt road. There is no TV, no pool. For us that was a plus. We really enjoyed disconnecting and sleeping as close to nature as you can get. We are early to bed, early to rise types, so we didn't mind the lack of electric lights in our room. Marge provided us with solar lanterns, which we used for maybe half an hour each night after we returned to our cabin, and that was all we needed. The room consists of a bed and two small tables, and then a shelf runs along the top of the wall. Since we were planning on staying for another week after we left Moonracer Farm, we had a lot more clothing than would comfortably fit on the shelf, so we left some in a suitcase in the rental car, and brought some into the Casita. It worked out fine for us, but again, might not be for everyone. For us, it was perfect, and I've already recommended Moonracer Farm to friends

We had one of the most authentic jungle adventures of our lives at Marge and Tom's rustic hidden gem off the beaten track. Fully submerged in the flora and fauna around our hut, there was no shortage of things to see and hear and do. We divided our time between riding the spectacular trails on our motorbike (bought in Cancun upon arrival for our 2 month holiday), wandering into ancient Mayan caves, swimming at Big Rock falls and exploring this jungle paradise (with special thanks to our incredibly insightful guide, Julio, complete with a home cooked meal by his wife Jinette, highly recommended excursion!). Marge and Tom are Upstate New Yorkers turned adopted indigenous after 10 years of jungle living highs and lows, converting this former jaguar sanctuary into what it is today, which are several rustic wooden huts (clean and equipped with flush toilets, but no electricity) well spaced between each other and completely surrounded by beautiful thick lush green. Opt for Marge's fantastically big breakfasts and deliciously satisfying home cooked dinners (after a long full hot day, there's nothing better)… apart from the way they tell their incredible stories in the lamplight. Thank you all so much! We can't recommend this experience enough! Plan on spending at least a few nights, if not longer!

We rented a car in San Ignacio just so we could stay at Moonracer and what a great decision. Marge and Tom are like long lost family and although we wanted to hang out and just chat with them all day, in their superb kitchen, we rallied the kids and visited Rio Pools, Rio Frio Cave, and the Green River Butterfly Farm. We loved all their animals too, especially Red! Thank you Marge and Tom. Can't wait to visit again someday!

I recently took a trip to Belize and could not figure out where to stay in the San Ignacio area. San Ignacio is a city in the Cayo District of Belize where you can plan many excursions and adventures with the multiple tour companies there. After much deliberation, I chose Moonracer farm which is in a beautiful jungle setting near the small village of San Antonio. Even before arriving, I was impressed with Marge’s responsiveness and patience in answering all my questions by email. She took a considerable amount of her time to answer questions and provide very detailed directions to the farm. During my stay, I engaged in interesting conversations with Marge and Tom and really enjoyed learning more about them and their farm. Not only were they wonderful guides and sources of valuable information, but also, Marge is an amazing cook so any guest should try to have at least some meals at the farm. The cabin I stayed in was well appointed with comfortable beds, nice bathrooms, perfect screened in porch, and most of all, it was really peaceful and quiet far away from any hustle and bustle. I highly recommend Moonracer farm to those looking for a quiet forest experience in Belize. The owners, Tom and Marge, are wonderful people with expert knowledge of the country. I took several tours while in country but I most highly recommend the Actun Tunichil Muknal or “ATM” tour. This amazing cave tour is not to be missed!

My wife and I spent 3 nights of our honeymoon trip with Tom and Marge on Moonracer farm and we couldn’t recommend this place enough. We were traveled throughout Belize for two weeks - staying in up-scale beach resorts, island hotels, and others and we both agreed that the stand out accommodation, was by far, Moonracer Farm. We felt like we were visiting with long lost family members. The whole place was filled with so much love, Marge and Tom were the most wonderful hosts. I would rate Marge’s cooking with some of the worlds top restaurants! On our first night we were treated to freshly made shrimp pizza in their very own outdoor wood fire oven with (once again freshly made) chocolate brownies. The following morning I was woken by the smell of fresh coffee and breakfast cooking. We would go back in a heartbeat if only for the food!! Every night we all stayed up, drank ice cold beer and talked about their many adventures in the jungle (please ask them about the ‘Hero Twins’!) Tom was hard at work during the day making new cabins for future guests, and Marge was making meal after amazing meal and looking after the farm’s many animals including horses, chickens and dogs ( the Moonracer chickens are especially interesting to watch). The Moonracer outdoor kitchen alone is worth a visit which, like everything else, was built from scratch by Tom and Marge.

We wanted to spend the days adventuring the local area so Tom and Marge suggested how best we could spend our time. They arranged for us to go horseback riding through the jungle, one of the highlights of our trip! Marge made us a delicious packed lunch for the road and made sure we had plenty of water. We felt safe and looked after in what was a completely new part of the world for us.

The day before we got to Moonracer, I lost my GoPro camera in a waterfall. Normally it was something I would have let go but this was particularly upsetting as the camera had all our honeymoon pictures. It happened while I was jumping off a ledge into the pool and when I came up, the camera had sunk to the murky bottom. When we arrived at Moonracer, Tom asked how our visit had been and I mentioned how I’d lost it. He turned to me and said, ‘Don’t worry, I’ll go back with you tomorrow and find it.’ The next day we drove to the falls and Tom jumped in, swam to the bottom and found the camera on his very first dive. It meant the world to me that this guy I just met would take the time out of his day and physically jump in the water to find my camera…I’m still grateful to him! We spent the evening watching the footage with headlamps in the Moonracer kitchen. The camera had kept recording right up until Tom’s rescue.

At the end of our stay we actually got quite emotional. It felt like we were leaving two very close friends and we wished we had stayed for longer. When we go back to Belize, the first place we stop will be Moonracer Farm. Please go, you won’t find a more welcoming or adventure packed accommodation in all of Belize. Great for families looking to un-plug and share some real quality time after a busy day exploring and friends and couples looking to relax and reconnect with nature. Your stay here will be one of the highlights of your trip ( and that is saying a lot because a trip to Belize is filled with highlights )

Hello Fellow Travelers!

If you're looking at Moon Racer, you are looking at the right place to stay! I had the pleasure to stay here for 8 days in August with Marge and Tom. It was such a wonderful experience for the following reasons:
1. Perfect Environment! Marge and Tom built these awesome cabins in the middle of the jungle! Literally off the grid. There was no electricity at night and you are forced to look at the beautifully lit sky with glistening stars everywhere! Then, you are encouraged to use all your senses by listening to the different animal noises, wind howling, rain splattering, etc.. You get the idea. You get to relax on the hammock that they have right outside of the room. To me, this was the perfect yoga/meditation retreat. So instead of paying thousands of dollars for those, the price here was definitely affordable! It was $60/for the bigger cabins and recently they just built 3 single cabins for only $30/night! I don't know if prices could get any better than that. The cabins remind me of tree houses nestled against the jungle foliage. The bathroom was super clean. I felt so clean staying there although it was off grid. AND no mosquitoes! I didn't even wear any bug repellent! I got all my bug bites in the Cayes.
2. Prices! So affordable. How can you beat $30/night for your own individual tree house?!
3. Meals! Marge made me breakfast, lunch, and dinner and Tom made cocktails! I felt so spoiled! The food was delicious! Fresh and organic. We even picked eggs from their chicken coop. So fun. I actually got stomach issues the last 2 weeks in Belize AFTER I left MoonRacer.
3. The company: Tom and Marge were super fun to hang out with. They even took me to visit their friends in the village. We even went into the jungle one day at his friend's jungle. I really experienced how the people there really lived. It was not touristy at all. The type of experience a person needs when traveling-an authentic & natural way. We went for walks in the morning as well.
4. They helped me organize my trips. They even organized someone to pick me up from the airport! Also, luckily, I met a couple there and we all traveled together for the next week because they had a car.
The place was so fantastic. Everything that I thought jungle Belize would be like. It was peaceful, serene, and an amazing place to stay. I would totally come by here if I were to come back to Belize. I definitely recommend this place for budget conscientious travelers or anyone looking for a great place, delicious meals, and an overall authentic experience.
