We stayed at Lower Dover for 3 nights but would have stayed longer had we known what a treat it was! Would definitely return! As a fellow hostel owner, I have spent some time thinking about what makes a great place to stay & this definitely meets the bill - clean & friendly & comfortable. Easy to find - we hoped off the bus in Unitedville where there's a sign on the highway & its just a 10 min walk from there. Cute cabins & spacious showers. But above all, Maddy, the owner & host, really tops the cake - she is an incredible local guide and will go above & beyond to make sure you get the most of your experience. And the swimming hole less than 100 m away was perfect for morning dios! Thanks so much Maddy!

Lower Dover is fantastic! Maddie has a wealth of knowledge and her food is delicious - Maddie also caters for dietary requirements including gluten free, vegetarian and vegan. Lower Dover is in a great location if you want to explore inland Belize. Highly recommend!!

Lower Dover was an amazing experience! Maddy was more than welcoming with wine in hand on our arrival and gave us rides to and from the bus stop w our luggage! The land is beautiful and filled with great plants and animals and farm animals! Hiking trails and swimming holes on site! Also they provide very delicious breakfast and dinners with vegetables straight off the land! SUCH GOOD MEALS! Maddy will connect you w local tour guides and ways to achieve the jungle adventure you want! She had an answer for all questions asked! Don't forget HOT showers :) comfy and clean beds! Hibiscus wine yum! Thanks so much!

Lower dover is the perfect blend of wildness and comfort, giving you the sense that you are miles away from anything whilst being just a stones throw from the town of San Ignacio.
Maddy is a great host and goes above and beyond to make every guest feel at home. The showers were a welcome treat, beds in the dorms were comfortable and the food was delicious! The atmosphere of this place is really what makes it though - the family style dinners were a treat, with great conversation all round, plus plenty of animals in the garden to add to the ambiance too.
I'd recommend this place to solo travelers, groups and couples. Lower Dover somehow magically manages to cater to all in a uniquely wonderful way!

Wow. Words can’t even begin to describe how awesome this place is. Lower Dover is situated about 20 minutes east of San Ignacio, and the property is a collection of small, colorful cabanas carved out of the rainforest. We stayed in a private cabana both nights, but there are dorms as well. The property is literally situated on top of a Mayan ruin, and the owner, Madeline, knows an incredible amount about the history and culture of the Mayan people. The food was outstanding. Each meal is home cooked by Madeline and her staff, and we enjoyed everything from fresh handmade tortillas, to shrimp and steak, to amazing eggs for breakfast each morning that come from the hens that roam the property. Each meal is accompanied by Lower Dover’s homemade hibiscus juice. In addition, the property is only thirty minutes from the ATM cave, and Madeline was absolutely incredible in helping to coordinate a tour for us at the very last minute.

HIGHLY RECOMMEND!

Also, make sure you try their hibiscus wine!! We bought two bottles :)

Best hostel I’ve ever stayed in. Truly. The owner Maddy has created a special place here in Belize. She knows all the best things to do and is extremely helpful from answering any questions you might have to booking tours for you. Every other local person I’ve met in this country knows of Lower Dover and Maddy and raves about it. It’s very chill; and so beautiful. I didn’t want to leave!

LOVED this beautiful place. I want everyone I know to visit here. You will not be disappointed. Bring bug spray and good walking shoes. ATM cave is a must and I recommend the iguana sanctuary in San Ignacio. Have to mention the meals at Lower Dover: healthy, delicious, and filling. Thanks for everything, Maddy! I hope to be back soon

Just 20 minutes away from San Ignacio you ll find this hidden oasis. The adorable Ower Maddy offers colorful painted, very clean cabins - on top you get warm rainwater showers as huge as a dancefloor. The property does have their own Maya ruins that you can check out by yourself. The river nearby is perfect for swinging and cooling of. Her son Justin does delicious hibiscus and starfruit wine which will get you addicted.
If you wanna relax, be of the beaten track and just see all kind of birds in their natural habit, this is the place for you. Loved it here.

Such a hidden gem in the midst of nature while also on a 10min walk from the main road! And Maddy - the owner - is really a sweet heart who took such good care of us! We stayed in a private cabaña which was probably the nicest place we've stayed at; had amazing sweet potato curry with lots of veggies and delicious breakfasts that Maddy made for us; walked along the trail; saw the ruins; swam in the little lake; and spent time on our veranda on some rainy days. Very much recommended!

Eine schöne Anlage etwas ab vom Schuss. Aber innerhalb von 10min Fussmarsch ab der Hauptstraße zu erreichen. Die Preise für Essen und Getränke sind etwas teuer, daher habe ich selber gekocht. Die Besitzer sind freundlich und hilfsbereit. Auf der Anlage hat es einen Trail, einen Fluss zum Baden und auch eine kleine Maya Ruine.

This place was amazing. Maddy and her family could not have been more friendly. We were two very tired travlers who made errors when booking (wrong date so just showed up unannounced!) and Maddy accommodated us without question also helping us book our tour to the Aim caves. The grounds are beautiful and we loved the guide dogs who accompanied us whilst we explored the nature trail and Mayan ruins on site. Room was very comfortable and clean. Highlight of our stay here was sitting in the porch in the dark and watching the fire flies sparkle!

Un vrai coin de nature, où l'on se sent comme chez soi

Idéalement situé à quelques kilomètre de San Ignacio, mais sans en avoir les inconvénients le Lower Dover est une grande propriété sur laquelle les propriétaires américains ont construits de ravissants cabanas colorés. Très propres, équipés de ventilateurs, ils sont à la fois intimes et chaleureux. La salle de bains et les toilettes sont à l'extérieur, mais rien de gênant ici, car on se sent tout de suite comme à la maison. Nous sommes allés nous baigner à la rivière et les chiens nous ont naturellement accompagnés. C'est un peu l'arche de Noé avec les poules, les canards, les pintades, les chiens, mais c'est surtout très chaleureux. La salle de billard ou la salle à manger commune peuvent recevoir ceux qui souhaitent diner et la propriétaire est disponible pour donner toutes les informations utiles et pratiques pour les très nombreuses visites possibles aux alentours.
Largement recommandé, avec un très bon rapport qualité-prix.

Beyond fantastic! Cool, clean cabanas, nearby waterfalls and jungle trails. Be sure to take the tour of the on-site Maya ruins & jungle medicine trail. There are high end, mid level and budget cabanas plus hostel like dorms. We took the bus to Unitedville from the BZE airport but other guests arrived via taxi. Even though Lower Dover is only a few minutes off of the main highway, we were impressed by it's deep jungle vibe & the amount of wildlife we saw.yes even toucans! Their tour of the ATM Cave was the highlight of our trip in Belize. One of the best vacations my boyfriend and I have had together.
