There is not enough time for me to identify all the great things about this location. From the work being done to preserve the Belize rainforest, to the activities associated with sustainable logging and pursuing people who conduct illegal logging,, Hill Bank is an area that is trying to get it right when it comes to ecological conservation. The only disappointment has been the incursion of a large Mennonite farming Community which has clear cut significant portions of the rainforest. Not only is this detrimental globally, but it also adversely impacts the historic presence of the people that have lived in the area with minimal impact on the forest for centuries. Nearby, are the Laminae ruins of the Mayans which in themselves are quite fascinating and the many Mayan descendants who live in the area today are wonderful, open and hard-working people.

Visited the area for a botanical research project at the time. However, at first sight I was amazed by the massive open view. The great new River lake was sitting at its start point surrounded by pure forest. The accommodation was good enough, didn't get much sleep since I stayed up all night taking to some wonderful people. But forest rangers were on the guard. The night walk is fantastic since you will come across many nocturnal creatures. Nevertheless, I see it more of a research center rather than a luxurious stay. Hope u have a good time. (Roads aren't so accessible during the rainy season.)
