We were signed up for cave tubing but it was cancelled so we did the Goff's island and snorkeling instead. Big mistake to do this. The island was small and as we were the first ones there it was quiet and very interesting. However, very soon there were so many people you might have thought the island would sink! The snorkeling adventure was actually a survival swim nightmare. Although the company could not control the waves, going snorkeling in 5 foot waves is not advisable. The waves coming to the island were not so big, but the wind was whipping up the waves in the reef area. They tell you signals for if you need help. They never responded to the signals. There is no swim platform on the boat so you must jump over the edge into the water. The "guide" was first in the water and quickly swam away from the boat. She was constantly moving and we had all we could do to keep up with her. She kept diving down, getting things off the bottom and wanting to pass them around to us. We spent almost the entire time just trying to find our guide and cleaning the salt water from our breathing tube as the waves constantly broke over our heads. This was nothing like our other snorkeling adventure where we could explore at our own pace. When we got to shore (you end up at a rocky shore where you need to walk in) we were totally exhausted and had to wait for awhile for the boat to go back to the mainland. That was also interesting as a drunk gentleman was making a fool of himself and a group was playing music and singing loudly. No one from the company tried to settle him down even when people started putting money in his bathing suit. Very disappointed in the excursion. Would not recommend this company to anyone. The lack of concern for safety was quite disconcerting.

    Goff’s Caye Island Getaway

I did the island excursion with this company where they took you in a boat and brought you to a private island. The boat ride is EXTREMELY rocky and you are packed into a small boat for 30 minutes to get there. If you are prone to motion sickness I would definitely recommend sitting in the back of the boat. If you sit near the front the bumps from the waves will cause you to bounce off your seat. However they said this is normal which is why people who get sick should sit in the back of the boat.

The tour guide doesn't say much about the island. As I was from a Princess Cruise and a majority of the cruisers are elderly, the guide was trying to convince these people to buy retirement homes in Belize. The guys shared false facts about the country in order to make it seem nicer than it is by lying about the crime rate, military presence, and more (which I know because I already knew a lot about Belize and it's history). However the excursion wasn't about what the guide said.

The private island was no bigger than a soccer field but it was amazing! You feel like you are on an island in the middle of nowhere except that the island has restrooms, a chef who works on a barbecue to prepare fresh beef skewers, and more. Loungers are included but they only have 10 so ask for it right away. Otherwise there are picnic tables to put your belongings at.

They even bring you out to go snorkelling on the Belize Barrier Reef where you can see plenty of cool plant life and a few fish. The guide who snorkels with you also scans the reef for wildlife like starfish and let's you hold them. The snorkeling requires a lot of swimming, but if you aren't a good swimmer you can hold onto a strap and the guide will pull you though the water.

I would definitely recommend this excursion to anyone coming to Belize on a cruise because not only is the island beautiful, but they bring you back with plenty of time for you to shop and board your ship.

Eco Tours sails you to a beautiful island, Goff Key off the coast of Belize. The island is small and included in the price is a guided snorkeling tour of the 2nd largest barrier reef in the world and unlimited rum punch. They have an amazing deal on food with a grilled chicken and lobster plate for $12 USD.
