The family that runs AJAW is very friendly and it was great to participate in hand crafting chocolate. Our high school students were not prepared for the darkness is the chocolate but I LOVED it!
Great experience learning how to make chocolate the traditional way.
The chocolate is yummy although you should ask for extra honey of you are a kid or have a sweet tooth. This is the real stuff!
Cute chocolate making demonstration. It's a nice activity if you have time.
We did the tour at their facility in San Ignacio. It was an amazing educational experience. The whole thing was about an hour long and no dead air or down time.
Fun and interesting presentation on the history of chocolate. Includes tastings. We loved it and highly recommend! Great for families.
What a find!! We happened upon this place and took their chocolate class and had such a blast!! They show you each step of the chocolate process and even let you taste the Coco beans in each stage. Then you get to grind chocolate how Mayan people traditionally did. They even make you traditional Mayan chocolate drinks. It's a wonderful combination of a cooking and history lesson. Definitely worth the $12 class fee!
Very cool if you want to learn about the roots of chocolate. Lovely people.
Wonderful and friendly hand ground chocolate maker. Nice taste, enjoyable experience.
What a great experience! Take cocoa beans and make chocolate. This was fantastic. Taste and smell experience. Grind the beans. Make hot chocolate. Drink it straight. Add honey, Add spices. Note the difference. Everyone should go here and experience and learn about where chocolate comes from, the delicate methods to make it and the joy of tasting real chocolate direct from the beans.
Neat experience (more than I was expecting) but a little pricey in my opinion.
Do Cacao Farm and Chocolate Making. Taste the Oldest Drink Made for the Mayan Elites. Taste fresh Cacao Pods at Farm.
My boyfriend and I did the presentation (60 min) and absolutely loved it. We weren't sure it'd be worth the $12US a person, but it definitely was. Amazing experience and incredibly interesting. Very delcious as well. Thank you for the great experience! Note: Bring cash, since they don't have a credit card machine.
Awesome experience. Adrian and Elida share their family knowledge of Maya traditional cacao significance. So neat to see local farming, agroforestry and then learn and participate in how chocolate it's made. Takes about 2 1/2 hours. Personalized (not a touristy afternoon) and you get to support a family business and tradition :)
Such a cool shop! They teach you how to make chocolate and let you try some different flavors. Great for a small family or couple.
Take a chocolate making tour in the little tin hut - you'll walk away with tons of rich deep dark chocolate, a hot chocolate, and a lot more knowledge of how your favorite sweet is made. Authentic Mayan teachings as well, and a look into the spirituality of chocolate for the Mayans.
A fascinating experience making your own chocolate from cacao beans, under the tutelage of a Mayan couple. Adrian and Elida's knowledge of chocolate and it's history is extensive and I learn something new every time I visit. Their chocolate is absolutely the best and without any added mystery chemicals
