This "park" is land set aside because of the radioactive fallout from the Chernobyl disaster in 1986. The land is mostly pine trees, with some birch stands.
In Belarus, they are harvesting the trees. I'm not sure what they are doing with slightly radioactive logs.response / report this review -

Administration of PSRER is located in the town of Chojniki. The annual budget of PSRER is 4 million USD.

Wildfire prevention
Radiation monitoring
Research of nuclear decontamination of soil
Preventing unauthorized persons from entering the reserve
Planting trees to prevent air and water erosion
The administration uses land in the reserve to earn income in addition to its budget. The purpose is to increase the self-sufficiency of the reserve, save money, increase the salaries of employees and contribute positively to the GDP of Belarus.
Forestry and woodworking, sale of timber, firewood, individual carpentry orders
Growing crops as fodder for animals and also for human consumption
Purebred horse breeding using forage resources in the reserve
Pig farming, cattle farming, dairy farming
Beekeeping, honey production
Production of fruit tree seedlings
Providing services to citizens and organizations (transport, sanitation, human decontamination, research on the concentration of radionuclides).
Since 2004, there is a now 230-head herd on the reserve's horse farm. Cattle is being bred to endure the conditions of radioactive contamination, young individuals are sold for further breeding.

There are fields of crops just inside the green area showed in the map, I don't think is safe to make food here.
I was traveling by bicycle and Police stopped me twice in 10 minutes to ask me where I was going.
The weirdest thing is that I went few kilometers inside this park and there was nowhere to see a sign about radioactivity, the only signs I sow where 10km away from the park, direction north-west (more far from Chernobyl)response / report this review -

Wife and I took the family for a vacation to this beautiful park. Although the guided tour system wasn't the best, the petting zoo had the best and most exotic creatures EVER! The U.S. State Department said the area had a "special" effect on people and that it was highly advised that we not visit; however, I believe they just did not want my family to experience the natural splendor that Belarus has to offer. Shortly after the trip my son, Timmay, grew a third arm and is now much better at holding things. I highly recommend this location for family getaways.
